Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU Float position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring Epic proficiency and comfort floating across all PCU and Med/Surg units.

- Float position covering all PCU and Med/Surg (MS) units within a large 703-bed acute care teaching hospital
- Level I Trauma Center (Adult & Pediatrics) with Magnet designation for nursing excellence
- Academic teaching hospital affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine
- Certified Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center
- PCU patient ratio averages 5:1; MS patient ratio averages 6:1, with potential flex up to 7:1
- Patient population includes telemetry, stepdown, and med/surg-level acuity, including cardiovascular pre/post cardiac cath cases
- Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- Staffing needs are re-evaluated every 4 hours, meaning travelers may float 2–3 times per shift
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend (EOW) or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
- One holiday shift required per 13-week contract
- Epic EMR experience required
Requirements
- Active Virginia state or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Experience in telemetry and stepdown-level care (PCU, DOU, or IMC) required
- Cardiovascular experience including pre/post cardiac cath settings required
- Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and titrating cardiac drips required
- Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, and blood product administration required
- Skilled in central line care, trach management, and non-invasive airway support (nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP, chest tubes using Emerson/PleurEvac) required
- Ability to manage PCA and heparin protocols, administer IV insulin, and manage endocrine/metabolic conditions required
- Experience participating in Rapid Response and Code teams required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Must be comfortable working across all PCU and MS units
- Two professional references required for consideration
- Copy of driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
