Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and EKG competency, with night shift availability and the ability to respond during emergency or disaster events.
Details
- MS/Tele unit in a community hospital setting
- Patient population includes diabetes, dementia, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, hip fracture, CHF, UTI, surgical recovery, renal failure, hypertension, cellulitis, and failure to thrive
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6
- Night shift schedule: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM (4x12-hour shifts)
- Every other weekend required
- Floating may be required to the main campus (NHRMC), approximately 32 minutes away
- No on-call requirement
- Self-scheduling
- Pyxis used for medication management
- Contracts of 13–20 weeks accepted; 36 or 48 hours per week available
Requirements
- Active NC RN license or a compact RN license currently in hand or pending
- Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
- Required skills include: telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management, use of rapid response/code teams, bowel obstruction and ostomy management, feeding tube care, pre/post hemodialysis management, renal failure care, blood product administration, central line blood draw, PICC line and peripheral line management, phlebotomy, IV insertion and maintenance, heparin, insulin, and PCA administration, chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac), BiPAP/CPAP management, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen administration, isolation precautions/PPE, and wound care/wound vac
- Must be able to pass an EKG test prior to start
- Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable, but must be on file by start)
- Must be able to work holidays (minimum 2 out of 3 major holidays required)
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are accepted
- Previously permanent, PRN, or EP staff of Novant Health or New Hanover Regional Medical Center must wait 12 months before being considered for a travel assignment; facility rehire approval is required
- Orientation is approximately 24 hours, with weekly orientation sessions; pre-start modules of approximately 8–10 hours are required
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved automatically, provided it does not fall on a holiday; additional RTO requires facility approval; no RTO is permitted during the first week of the assignment
- Block scheduling is not permitted unless it is a weekend block
- Contract staff are expected to participate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignments and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters; unit consolidation or reassignment may occur mid-contract
- Scrubs must be navy blue or white
- Travel pairs are allowed provided each traveler has their own transportation and is comfortable with potentially different schedules
- ACLS and experience with telemetry monitoring, post-angiogram care, post-cardiac surgery, post-MI, IV insulin protocols, bariatric surgery, CBI, port access/management, CVA, substance withdrawal, surgical drains, ABG interpretation, pre/post thoracic surgery, and tracheostomy care are preferred
