Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PACU position at an ambulatory/outpatient surgery center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications.
Details
- Ambulatory/outpatient surgery center setting in the Charlotte, NC area
- PACU unit serving a mixed patient population including infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
- Primary patient diagnoses include eye and ENT conditions; procedures include tonsillectomies, adenoidectomies, sinus surgeries, cataract extractions, and BMTs
- Average daily census of 40 patients across 9 rooms/beds
- No computerized charting system in use
- 8-hour day shifts only, with a mix of 06:00–14:30 and 07:30–16:00 start times; prep begins at 06:00 and PACU at 07:30
- No weekend or on-call requirements
- Floating may be required to other Charlotte-area ambulatory surgery centers (rarely), including Ballantyne ASC, Huntersville ASC, Center City, and COSC
Requirements
- Active NC or Compact RN license required; license and certifications may be pending at time of consideration
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and PALS
- Minimum 2 years of PACU or relevant RN experience required
- Ambulatory/outpatient work setting experience required
- Proficiency in starting and maintaining IVs required
- Experience with pre/post-op care including discharge instructions, medication reconciliation, and obtaining operative/procedural consent required
- Knowledge of malignant hyperthermia protocol and pain assessment and management required
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are accepted
- No RTO is permitted during the first week of the assignment due to orientation
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved provided it does not fall on a holiday; additional RTO beyond 7 days requires facility approval; RTO cannot be worked out onsite after booking
- Candidate must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- 3-day unit orientation provided, with additional weekly orientation
- Pre-start modules are required and must be completed annually; format includes online learning, Zoom, webinars, and in-person classes
- Scrubs are provided
- Previous permanent, PRN, or EP employees of Novant Health or New Hanover Regional must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
- Travel pairs are allowed, provided each traveler has their own transportation and is comfortable with potentially different schedules
