Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience, CRRT proficiency, and open heart post-op care expertise.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting in a Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
  • 18-bed unit with mixed acuity, serving both ICU and step-down status patients
  • Patient population includes atrial fibrillation, heart blocks, bradycardia, NSTEMI/STEMI, cardiac arrest, cardiogenic shock, heart failure, post-cardiac surgery (CABG/valve), pulmonary embolism, and thoracic surgery (VATS, lobectomy) patients
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:1 for fresh hearts and devices, 1:2 for ICU status patients, 1:3 for step-down status patients
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including Cardizem, Cordarone, Cardene, Nitroglycerin, Esmolol, Cleviprex, Milrinone, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Lasix, Bumex, Epinephrine, Levophed, Vasopressin, Insulin, Heparin, Aggrastat, Precedex, Propofol, Versed, and Fentanyl
  • Respiratory therapy (RT) coverage available 24/7 with ventilators, trach-vents, BiPAP, CPAP, high-flow, and Trilogy equipment on unit
  • Monitor techs watch Philips monitors off-unit, but RNs address alarms and read their own strips every 4 hours
  • 1–2 PCTs per shift and an in-house intensivist provide additional support
  • EMR: Epic
  • 12-hour night shifts; every other weekend required
  • Self-scheduling and block scheduling requests are accepted, though may be adjusted during schedule balancing
  • Holiday coverage required as needed to fill unit needs
  • No on-call or standby requirement
  • Travelers float first, primarily to ACU and ICU; may also float to Med-Surg and Telemetry with a maximum patient load of 6

Requirements

  • Active WV or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications (both AHA) required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Must have experience with CRRT
  • Must have experience with temporary pacemakers and post-permanent pacemaker care
  • Must have experience with Acute MI pre/post cardiac catheterization care
  • Must have mediastinal and chest tube experience
  • Must have ventilator management experience
  • Must have hypothermia protocol experience
  • Must have arterial line experience
  • Must have experience with post-op open heart patients (greater than 6 hours post-op at minimum; fresh open heart OR experience preferred)
  • IABP and Impella experience preferred
  • Hemodynamic monitoring and Swan-Ganz catheter experience preferred
  • A copy of a valid, unexpired driver's license is required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Royal blue scrubs required
  • Orientation consists of approximately 1 week, including modules, Epic training, and shadowing with a unit RN
  • Rare opportunity to work charge on night shift; night shift charge nurses carry a patient assignment
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have a 2-year break in service before being eligible to apply
  • Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than a cumulative year without a 2-year break
  • 2 references required: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., charge RN); if the candidate worked a permanent position in the last 12 months, one supervisor reference must be from that facility
  • A skills checklist completed within the past year is required for consideration
