Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position in Arizona, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience, Cerner proficiency, and the ability to work night shifts every other weekend.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting on a combined Med/Surg Telemetry unit (4A and 4B) with 48 total beds
- Patient population includes COVID, respiratory, GI, diabetic, telemetry, TIA/CVA, and general orthopedic and spinal surgical patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 with nurse aide support at a 1:10–15 ratio
- Telemetry is monitored remotely by monitor techs on a separate floor; RNs are required to interpret and sign strips at least once per shift
- Diltiazem administered at a set rate; RNs are not required to titrate drips
- Respiratory equipment in use includes BiPAP, CPAP, high flow oxygen, and breathing treatments
- Charting via Cerner (experience strongly recommended)
- 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM with a 30-minute unpaid lunch
- Every other weekend requirement (2 weekends per 4-week schedule)
- Travelers are first to float and may be floated to the East Campus or PCU if qualified
- No on-call or standby requirements
- Self-scheduling used; schedules are finalized by the unit manager on a 4-week cycle
Requirements
- Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license currently in hand; pending licenses are not accepted
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications are not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Experience with general and orthopedic surgical patients, CVA, and TIA required
- Ability to read and interpret basic telemetry strips required
- Cerner EMR experience strongly recommended due to limited orientation (1 shift)
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Valid driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (permanent address as shown on driver's license)
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- RNs are required to pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) before an offer can be confirmed
- On the first day of orientation, RNs will be given a pass/fail skills test covering sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
- Unit orientation consists of 1 shift (12 hours) on the unit
- Holiday coverage expected for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, and Thanksgiving Day — travelers are expected to work a combination of 2 days and 1 evening, or 2 evenings and 1 day across those holidays
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Charge nurse does not take a patient assignment; both a charge nurse and house supervisor are present on the unit

Cons
Cost of living is High, roughly $2000-2500 for your own private space. Float between East and West Campus, 25 minutes apart, west will likely be where you spend 75% of your shifts so pick your housing accordingly.
