Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Med/Surg Surgical Unit position at a Level 3 Trauma Center in Cape Girardeau, MO, requiring at least 1 year of post-surgical nursing experience.

- Work in a 23-bed Surgical Med/Surg unit (5H) within a 245-bed Level 3 Emergency and Trauma Center in Cape Girardeau, MO
- Post-surgical patient population including urology, ortho, general surgery, and medical overflow
- Patient ratio of 1:6
- Night shift schedule, 7p–7a (19:00–07:00)
- Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday); block scheduling may be accommodated based on unit needs
- No on-call requirements
- Floating may be required to Med/Surg and Progressive units (customary)
- EMR: Epic
- Standard equipment including IV pumps
Requirements
- Active MO or Compact RN license required
- BLS certification required
- Minimum 1 year of recent Med/Surg or post-surgical nursing experience required
- Post-surgical experience required (not OR/intraoperative — post-recovery only)
- No employment gaps of 90 or more days within the past 12 months
- Valid U.S. Social Security Number required (Canadian SINs not accepted)
- All certifications must be current with no expiration within the first 30 days of assignment unless documented renewal is scheduled
Additional Information
- Responsible for delivering comprehensive nursing care including assessment, care planning, patient and family education, and monitoring for changing patient conditions
- Must be willing to learn and take on charge nurse responsibilities
- Peritoneal dialysis experience is preferred
- Strong teamwork and communication skills are essential for this role
- Black scrubs required
- Flu vaccination is required for all travelers working between November 1 and April 1; exemptions must be client-approved
- Up to 5 days of requested time off (RTO) allowed per 13-week contract; any time off must be made up during the assignment
- Candidates are expected to work at least one major holiday per contract (Memorial Day, July 4th, or Labor Day; or Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's Day)
- Local candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are eligible but subject to a reduced pay rate
- Candidates living within 50 miles of the facility are limited to 3 consecutive 13-week contracts; after that, a 1-year separation or transfer to a facility outside the 50-mile radius is required
- The facility holds Comprehensive Cardiac Center Certification, Primary Stroke Center Certification, and Missouri Level I STEMI Center designation
