Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position specializing in acute leukemia and hematology, requiring a minimum of 2 years of nursing experience and an active OH or compact RN license.
Details
- Work takes place in a PCU unit with a primary focus on newly diagnosed acute leukemia and hematology patients
- Patient population includes adults and geriatrics
- Goal staffing ratio is 1:4, with the possibility of 1:5 based on unit needs
- Position offers 12-hour day/night rotating shifts (7:00–19:30 / 19:00–7:30); candidates accepting a rotating contract may be scheduled for days, nights, or a combination depending on department needs
- Shift assignments are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period; changes are not guaranteed and are based on staffing priorities
- Weekend scheduling is variable based on unit needs
- No set or blocked scheduling; self-schedule requests are accepted before the schedule is finalized
- Charting is performed using Epic
Requirements
- Active OH or compact RN license required
- Required certifications: BLS and ACLS
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
- Required skills: med-surg/telemetry, telemetry monitoring, interpretation of dysrhythmias, use of rapid response teams, feeding tube care and management, IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, central line blood draw, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, and IV insertion
- 2 professional references required: at least 1 must be from a Manager, Director, or formal leadership role (e.g., Supervisor); a Charge RN is acceptable as the second reference; co-worker references are not accepted
Additional Information
- No chemo certification required for this position
- Preferred certifications: ONS Chemo Certification and NIHSS
- Strong emphasis on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
- Orientation consists of the first week on day shift (Mon–Fri), followed by a second week of 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor
- Ohio fingerprinting is required and must be completed promptly after accepting the position; candidates outside of Ohio may need to travel to an in-state fingerprinting location or will receive a mailed fingerprinting packet
- Local candidates are accepted
- Former employees of the facility are eligible after being away for 6 months or more
- RTO must be requested at the time of submission and built into the contract; requests are limited to 7 days or fewer
- First-time travelers will be considered but are subject to client review

Cons
Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
