Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring ACLS, BLS, TNCC, PALS or ENPC, and NIHSS certifications, with a day shift schedule and every-other-weekend requirement.

Details

  • Acute care Emergency Department setting with 56 standard beds, expandable to 60–70 with hall beds
  • Separate fast track area (6 beds), dedicated triage area (5 beds), and 18 designated ED holding beds for inpatients awaiting placement
  • Dedicated psych/seclusion area with a locked hall containing 6 private treatment rooms
  • Common patient diagnoses include cardiac, stroke, sepsis, DKA, altered mental status, respiratory distress, abdominal pain, and mental health presentations
  • Department sees approximately 170–200 patients per day
  • Patient ratios of 1:3, or 1:4 for low-acuity patients
  • ED Techs perform EKGs; Respiratory Therapy manages ventilators, CPAP, BiPap, and ABGs
  • Telemetry monitoring available with dedicated monitor techs on unit
  • Radiology (X-ray and CT) located adjacent to the ED; transport assists with patient movement
  • Primary blood draws performed by nurses or ED Techs, with lab support for difficult draws
  • EMR: Epic (experience required)
  • Day shift, 12-hour shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Every-other-weekend requirement
  • No floating required
  • No on-call or standby requirement; extra shifts available but not mandatory
  • 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active WA state RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Current certifications required: ACLS, BLS, TNCC, PALS or ENPC, and NIHSS — all must be active; pending certifications not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of ED nursing experience; candidates with at least 1 year of experience in a larger trauma setting may be considered
  • BSN not required
  • Experience with Epic EMR required
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

  • Nurse manager will conduct a phone interview with candidates selected for consideration
  • Orientation consists of two days: one day of compliance/policy training (8–10 hours) and one day of department-specific orientation (12 hours)
  • Must be available to work Labor Day Weekend
  • Holiday coverage required for November and December holidays; manager may consider accommodating 1 of 3 holidays if it does not conflict with unit demands
  • No time off (RTO) will be approved during the first full week of the assignment
  • Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • Scrubs: any professional colors accepted
  • Support staff includes ED physicians, mid-level providers, charge nurses, house supervisors, ED techs, CNAs, and in-house security
  • Inpatient RNs may float into the ED to assist with inpatient hold assignments
  • Travelers may be assigned to triage after completing a triage competency test, though triage is generally staffed by department employees
