Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week Emergency Department position requiring a WA or Compact RN license and a comprehensive certification package including TNCC.
Details
- Acute care hospital Emergency Department with 56 beds (expandable to 60–70 with hall beds)
- Fast track area with 6 dedicated beds and a separate triage area with 5 beds
- 18-bed designated holding area within the ED for inpatients awaiting bed placement
- Locked psychiatric hall with 6 private treatment rooms and in-house security
- Department sees approximately 170–200 patients per day
- Patient population includes cardiac, stroke, sepsis, DKA, AMS, respiratory, abdominal pain, and mental health cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3, or 1:4 for low-acuity patients
- Radiology and CT are located adjacent to the ED; transport assists with patient movement
- ED Techs perform EKGs; RT staff manages ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and completes ABGs
- Telemetry is available on the unit with dedicated monitor techs
- Primary blood draws performed by nurses or ED Techs, with lab assistance for difficult draws
- EMR: Epic
- 12-hour day/evening shifts, 11:00 AM–11:00 PM
- Every other weekend required
- No floating required
- No on-call or standby requirement
Requirements
- Active WA state or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of ED experience required; candidates with 1 year of experience in a larger trauma setting may be considered
- Required certifications (all must be active, no pending accepted): ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS or ENPC, and TNCC
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- A driver's license copy is required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
- Travelers may be considered for triage assignments after completing a triage competency test, though triage is generally staffed by department employees
- Inpatient RNs may float into the ED to manage inpatient holds; ED RNs otherwise manage their own holds
- ED Techs, CNAs, and 1:1 patient sitters (provided by inpatient CNAs) support the nursing team, alongside ED physicians, mid-level providers, charge nurses, and a house supervisor
- Orientation consists of two days: one day of compliance/policy/education (8–10 hours) and one day of department orientation (12 hours)
- Must work assigned holidays in November and December; the manager may consider granting 1 of 3 holidays if it does not conflict with unit demands
- No RTO will be approved during the first full week of the assignment
- Any color professional scrubs are acceptable
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year; candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- Pairs (duos) submitting together cannot be accommodated on the same schedule or shifts
- A phone interview with the hiring manager is part of the selection process
