Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center in Winston-Salem, NC, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Surg Tele experience and an active NC or compact RN license.
Details
- 29-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit at an 885-bed Level 1 Trauma academic medical center with Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations
- General medicine patient population including diabetes, GI, respiratory, renal, and wound care cases
- Procedures include chest tubes, tracheostomy care, PIV starts, drains and tubes, and PCA pump management
- Drip management includes Amiodarone, Fentanyl PCA, Ketamine PCA, Dilaudid PCA, and Heparin
- Patient ratio of 1:5-6 RN to patient; CNA coverage at 1:9-10
- EMR: Epic (experience required); IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell
- Centralized telemetry monitoring with telemetry tech support
- 12-hour day shifts, 7a–7p, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Floating required to multiple units within Region 1, including Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division facilities
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry (MST) experience required
- Most recent experience must be within the last year
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips
- Proficiency with chest tubes, tracheostomy care, PIV starts, PCA pumps, and IV drip management
- Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills with ability to work collaboratively in a high-stress environment
- 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide direct and indirect patient care including lab draws, wound/dressing changes, and management of complex drips and devices
- Phlebotomy is a shared responsibility between RN and the phlebotomy team; no IV/VAT Team on unit
- Department support includes CNAs, a Receptionist/HUC, Charge Nurse, Rapid Response Team, RT (24/7), Hospitalist (24/7), and Intensivist (24/7)
- Orientation includes new employee orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Royal blue scrubs required

- Unit culture is described as patient-centered, highly reliable, and team-oriented
- First-time travelers may be considered with a strong Med/Surg Telemetry background
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- Must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position before being considered
