Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Trauma ICU position at a Level 1 trauma center in Nebraska, requiring at least 2 years of ICU experience and active ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.
Details
- Acute care setting in an 18-bed Trauma ICU at a Level 1 trauma center
- Patient population includes adults and pediatric patients 15 years and older presenting with various trauma injuries, sepsis, stroke, ARDS, MODS, COPD, and cardiac arrest
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1–2 (ICU) and 1:4 (PCU); nursing aides/patient care techs available at a 1:18 ratio
- Specialized equipment and procedures include CVPs, IABP, Impella, A-lines, Swan-Ganz catheters, EV-1000, ICP monitoring, Zoll-Thermoguard for hypothermia protocol, and Bell Mont rapid transfusion
- RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
- Respiratory equipment ranges from nasal cannula to mechanical ventilators; RNs are not required to go beyond troubleshooting
- Cardiac monitoring via Draeger system with centralized telemetry; RNs must be able to independently read and interpret cardiac strips (no monitor techs on unit)
- Charge nurse present on each shift; charge nurse carries an assignment
- EMR: Epic
- 12-hour night shifts (18:30–06:30)
- Self-scheduling managed by the unit manager based on unit needs
- 4 weekend shifts required per 6-week scheduling period
- Floating required to all inpatient units, excluding Maternity/NICU
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active NE state RN license or Compact (NLC) license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
- Required certifications (must be active, not pending): ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Level 1 trauma center or ICU experience required
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility, as verified by a valid driver's license
- Cannot be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) at any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Valid driver's license required for consideration
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
Additional Information
- Fast-paced, critically ill patient environment — successful candidates demonstrate strong critical thinking, a positive attitude, and a team-oriented approach
- Unit-specific orientation consists of 2 shifts; total orientation is 12 hours
- A pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered during orientation — a minimum score of 90% is required to pass; failure to pass will result to contract termination
- Manager interview required for this position
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them will result in contract termination
- Navy blue scrubs required
- RTO must be requested upfront; 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract — additional RTO will not be approved after consideration
- Dress code requires navy blue scrubs
