Description
American Traveler is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with 5+ years of experience for a NICU Level III night shift position, with neonatal intubation capability required.
Details
- NICU Level III unit at an acute care hospital in Santa Barbara, CA
- Patient population includes neonates through adolescents
- Performs advanced airway management including direct neonatal intubation, extubation, endotracheal suctioning, nasal and oral airway placement, tracheostomy care, and pulmonary hygiene
- Manages patients with conditions including bronchopulmonary dysplasia, respiratory distress syndrome, cystic fibrosis, RSV, aspiration, pneumonia, transient tachypnea of the newborn, and near drowning
- Ventilator management includes BiPAP, CPAP, HFOV, IMV/SIMV, and mechanical ventilation weaning
- Required ventilators: Dräger VN500, Hamilton G5 and T1; required oscillator: 3100A
- Administers inhaled medications including Albuterol, Atrovent, Nitric Oxide (iNO), Inhaled Flolan, Pulmicort, Racemic Epinephrine, Lidocaine, Mucomyst, Spiriva, Terbutaline Sulfate, and inhaled steroids
- Documents in Epic (required)
- Primary need is night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM, 3x12-hour shifts); some day shift opportunities may be available for candidates who are flexible on shift
- Participates in neonatal transports (inter-departmental) and assists in high-risk deliveries
Requirements
- Active RRT credential required
- CA State Respiratory Care Practitioner license required if applicable
- Current certifications required: BLS, PALS, NRP
- Intubation certified — ability to intubate neonates is a hard stop requirement; candidates must be able to practice at the top of their license
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner
- Experience required in NICU, ER, Peds Critical Care, Peds, and patient transports
- Proficiency with Dräger VN500, Hamilton G5 and T1 ventilators, and 3100A oscillator
- Epic EMR experience required
- Skills required include ABG interpretation and drawing, capillary and umbilical blood gases, chest physiotherapy, bubble CPAP, CPAP/Nasal CPAP/BiPAP, oscillating ventilator management, and basic EKG
- 2 professional supervisor references from within the past 2 years required for consideration
- Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained required for consideration
