Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care / Intermediate Care Unit (PCU/IMCU) position at a Level 1 Trauma Center and major teaching hospital, requiring strong IMC/ICU experience and an active WV or Compact RN license.
Details
- Work setting is a short-term acute care, Level 1 Trauma Center and major teaching hospital (COTH member) with 855 staffed beds
- Unit is a 3S Intermediate Care Unit with 8 IMC beds and 10 separate Observation beds
- Patient population includes medical and surgical patients with respiratory issues, DKA, arrhythmias, post-operative kidney transplant patients, and interventional neurological patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 3:1 for IMCU and 4:1 for Med/Surg
- Schedule is 3x12 or 4x12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM), weekdays with every other weekend required
- Floating within scope may be required to meet facility needs
- No on-call requirement
- Block schedule requests are open for discussion during the interview
- Charting is done in Cerner
- Parking is complimentary for travelers in the facility garage
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required; candidates may be considered with a pending license but must have an active WV or Compact license prior to start
- Certifications required: BLS and ACLS (both must be AHA-issued)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Minimum 1 year of in-specialty (IMC or PCU) experience required
- Strong IMC and/or ICU experience required
- Experience with interpretation and management of dysrhythmias required
- Ventilator management experience required
- Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility; candidates within 75–99 miles may be submitted for facility approval
- Two manager or charge nurse references from within the past 2 years required for consideration
- Driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (October 1 – March 31); medical exemption (documented by an allergist or physician) may be accepted in lieu of vaccination
Additional Information
- Provides intermediate care nursing to a diverse medical and surgical patient population, including telemetry monitoring, renal, neurological, and post-operative care
- Orientation is held every other week on Thursdays
- Former permanent employees of the health system must have a gap of at least 2 years from their last day of permanent employment before being eligible as a traveler
- No RTO restrictions; time-off requests should be discussed during the interview
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Royal blue and/or white scrubs required
