Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical/Oncology unit position at a major teaching hospital in West Virginia, requiring at least 2 years of experience and telemetry skills.
Details
- Work in a 29-bed Medical Surgical/Oncology unit at a Level IV Trauma Center and major teaching hospital (COTH member) with 838 total staffed beds
- Adult patient population includes medical and surgical oncology, palliative care, urology, and telemetry patients
- Patient ratios are 4-5:1 on days and 5-6:1 on nights
- Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 7p–7a on weekdays with every other weekend required
- 36- or 48-hour contract options available
- Floating within scope may be required to meet facility needs
- Charting is performed in Cerner
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required; candidates with a pending RN license may be considered
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Current BLS certification required
- ONCC or ONS certification required
- Proficiency in telemetry, central line draws, port access, blood administration, PCA pumps, bone marrow aspiration assist, and Pleurx chest tubes required
- Chemotherapy administration experience preferred but not required for strong candidates
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31); a documented medical allergy on record from an allergist or physician is the only accepted exemption
- Must provide at least 2 manager or charge nurse references from within the past 2 years for consideration
- Driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include oncological nursing care, palliative care support, and family education on oncological processes
- Blocked schedule requests will be accommodated when possible
- Holiday RTO requests should be limited to no more than 1 of the 3 major holidays
- Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to qualify; candidates residing 75–99 miles away may be submitted for facility approval
- COVID vaccine is not required
- Former permanent employees of this health system must have a 2-year gap from their last day of permanent employment before being eligible to work as a traveler
- Scrub color for RNs is Royal Blue or White
- Free parking is available for travelers
