Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and the ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias.

Details

• Med/Surg Telemetry unit in a community hospital setting
• Patient diagnoses include diabetes, dementia, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, GI bleed, CHF, renal failure, surgical recovery, and more
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6
• Night shift: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM (4x12-hour shifts)
• Contract length of 13–20 weeks with 36 or 48 hours per week available
• Every other weekend required
• Floating may be required to the main campus approximately 32 minutes away
• No on-call requirements
• Self-scheduling
• Medication dispensing via Pyxis

Requirements

• Active NC or Compact RN license required (may be pending at time of consideration)
• Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
• Proficiency in telemetry with ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias
• Experience with remote telemetry monitoring
• Skills in med/surg nursing including IV management, central/PICC line care, blood product administration, wound care/wound vac, chest tube management, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, and more
• Must pass an EKG test prior to start
• Two professional supervisor/manager references from within the past 2 years required prior to start (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)

• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are accepted
• Preferred skills include ACLS, on-unit telemetry monitoring, post-cardiac surgery care, IV insulin protocols, tracheostomy care, ABG interpretation, CVA management, and prior charge experience
• Scrub color requirement: navy blue or white
• Orientation is approximately 24 hours with weekly orientation sessions; pre-start modules of approximately 8–10 hours are required
• Candidates must be available for a phone/video interview within 72 hours of submission
• Holiday coverage is required — candidates must work 2 out of 3 major holidays; RTO cannot be taken during holidays
• RTO is capped at 7 days per contract and cannot be taken during the first week of the assignment
• Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
• Travel pairs are allowed; each traveler must have their own transportation and be comfortable with potentially different schedules
• Any previous permanent, PRN, or EP employee of Novant Health or New Hanover Regional Medical Center must wait 12 months before being considered for a travel assignment
