Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/IMC/Med-Surg travel position at an acute care facility in Beaver Dam, WI, requiring at least 1 year of PCU or ICU experience and Cerner proficiency.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting, Level 4 Trauma Center
• PCU/IMC/Med-Surg unit with 12 beds plus 4 ICU rooms (average census of 8 patients)
• Common patient population includes pneumonia/COVID, post-op knees, hips, and fall patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: PCU/IMC 1:3–4, ICU 1:3, Med-Surg 1:5; minimum 2 RNs in department at all times
• Team nursing model with RN and LPN sharing a total of 7 patients
• CNA support available when census exceeds 6 patients
• RNs are required to titrate drips including Amiodarone and Heparin (IMCU) and Levo, Cardizem, Dobutamine, and pressors (ICU)
• Remote telemetry monitoring; RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own tele strips
• Charting in Cerner (transitioning to Epic)
• 12-hour night shifts
• Every 3rd weekend required (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Travelers are expected to be flexible and help fill gaps in the permanent staff schedule; self-scheduling available with balance requirements
• Low census/standby call requirement on a rotating basis with a 45-minute response time

Requirements

• Active WI or Compact RN license required by start date
• Current certifications required: BLS (AHA) and ACLS (AHA)
• Minimum 1 year of PCU or ICU experience required (Med-Surg Tele experience alone is not sufficient)
• Cerner EMR experience required
• 2 professional references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference from within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years of relevant experience
• BSN not required

• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Travel duos/pairs will be accepted
• Travelers may be asked to step into a charge nurse role; the charge nurse typically carries a small patient assignment
• Floating is not required — travelers who prefer not to float may be placed on low census instead; floating opportunities include the ED for tasking or holding patients
• Travelers willing to float to other areas such as the ED are less likely to be placed on low census/standby
• Holiday coverage required for 2 out of every 3 holidays
• Orientation consists of 4 hours of CBT/onboarding and 8 hours of floor training
• Solid-color scrubs required (any color)
• Candidates who previously worked for this health system must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their consideration date
• Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local, which affects the travel pay rate
