Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry position at a busy primary cardiac and stroke unit, requiring at least 2 years of relevant experience and the ability to manage a high patient turnover in a fast-paced environment.

Details

  • Hospital-based Cardiac Telemetry unit serving as the primary cardiac and stroke unit
  • Patient population includes stable pre/post care for pacemaker implantation, implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICD), cardiac catheterization, TR bands, post uncomplicated interventional peripheral vascular procedures, unstable angina, low-risk chest pain, CHF, dysrhythmias, new CVA, and TIA patients
  • Unit also manages COVID-positive patients using opti-flow and BiPAP during surge periods
  • Patient ratio is 1:5-6; candidates must be comfortable managing up to 6 patients, with high weekly turnover of 78–90 patients
  • Specialized procedures include cardiac drip management (Cardizem, Dopamine, Amiodarone, etc.), PCI, and titration of Cardizem drips
  • Equipment used includes telemetry monitors, pulse oximetry, high-flow O2 (stable patients), non-rebreather masks, and BiPAP (chronic use only)
  • EMR/systems used: Epic (Dimensions), Pyxis (medication), and SBAR communication
  • Schedule is 4x12-hour night shifts, 18:45–07:15
  • Every other weekend required, plus 2 Mondays and 2 Fridays per 6-week period
  • On-call required; frequency depends on patient census
  • Floating is required
  • Self-scheduling with leadership oversight; block scheduling is not permitted
  • Contract length is 13 weeks minimum, with the option to extend up to 26 weeks; 48-hour workweeks may be available

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required; license may be pending at time of consideration
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS); certifications may be pending at time of consideration
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
  • Proficiency in IV insertion and telemetry monitoring required
  • Experience with cardiac drips, pre/post procedure cardiac patients, and PCI required
  • Candidates must be comfortable with high-acuity, fast-paced unit environments and high patient ratios
  • Must pass an EKG competency test prior to start
  • Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable, but must be on file before start)

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are accepted at a different rate
  • Orientation is 36 hours; travelers must be available every day during the first week for hospital orientation
  • Approximately 8–10 hours of pre-start online modules are required and must be completed annually
  • Candidates must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • No time off (RTO) is permitted during the first week of the assignment due to orientation; RTO requests after booking are not permitted without prior approval
  • Candidate must work 2 out of the 3 major holidays assigned
  • A team lead is available to assist with admissions and discharges
  • Travel pairs are allowed provided each has their own transportation and is comfortable with potentially different schedules
  • Any previous permanent, PRN, or EP employee of Novant Health or New Hanover Regional must wait 12 months before being considered as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
  • Scrubs must be navy blue, white, or a mix of both; Novant t-shirts are permitted; jackets must match uniform color and material (no fleece); no Crocs with holes
