Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position at a STEMI and Stroke Certified community hospital, requiring 2 years of recent ED experience and both Kansas and Missouri RN licenses.
Details
- Work in a combined Adult/Pediatric Emergency Department at a 240-bed community hospital with 32 rooms
- Patient ratio of 1:4
- Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15)
- Every third weekend required, covering a combination of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday shifts within a 6-week scheduling period
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating may be required to other metro Emergency Departments within the health system
- Charting performed in Epic (experience required)
- STEMI and Stroke Certified facility
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active RN license in both Kansas and Missouri (or a Compact license equivalent) must be in hand at time of consideration — willingness to float between facilities requires both state licenses
- Minimum 2 years of recent ED specialty experience required, including at least 1 full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months with no employment gap greater than 90 days
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS
- Pediatric skills required: abdominal pain, asthma, burns, epiglottitis, head injury, hyperglycemia, identifying and reporting abuse, infections, mental/behavioral health conditions, poison ingestion, respiratory infections, seizures, sickle cell crisis, skin disorders, and UTIs
- Psychiatric skills required: acute psychosis, drug overdose, managing violent behavior, psychiatric hold, and suicidal patient management
- IV therapy and phlebotomy skills required: arterial line management, blood product administration, central line care/management, phlebotomy, and starting IVs
- Respiratory skills required: chest tube insertion/management, CPAP/BiPAP, ABG interpretation, intubation, and ventilated patient management
- Medication skills required: continuous IV paralytics, continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, and IV vasopressors
- Neurological skills required: CVA management
- Cardiac monitoring skills required: interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, management of multisystem organ dysfunction/failure, and 12-lead EKG acquisition
- Professional skills required: isolation precautions, triage, and splint management
- Home address must be at least 75 miles from the facility
- 2 professional references required: one from a supervisor level or above, and one from a charge RN or above — all references must be from individuals who have worked with the candidate within the past year
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
- Preferred skills include near drowning (pediatric) and procedural sedation administration
- Charge RN assignments and holiday shift coverage required as needed
- Navy scrubs required
- RTO is limited to a maximum of 7 days for the contract
- Travel partners are not accepted for this position
- Completion of 10–15 hours of online compliance modules is required prior to the start date
- Preferred skills include near drowning (pediatric) and procedural sedation administration
