Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg night shift position requiring telemetry skills and a minimum of 2 years of experience, with local candidates welcome.
Details
- Hospital-based Med/Surg unit with an isolation area for COVID patients and multi-level care capabilities
- Patient population includes dementia, diabetes, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, hip fracture, and other typical Med/Surg diagnoses
- Target nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5–6
- 12-hour night shifts (18:45–07:15); 36 or 48 hours per week accepted
- Weekend requirement of 12–16 hours per contract
- Floating to other units is required
- Contract length is 13–26 weeks
- EMR: Epic (experience preferred); Pyxis for medication dispensing; SBAR for communication
- Scheduling is based on unit needs
Requirements
- Active NC or Compact RN license required; may be submitted with license pending
- Current BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
- Required skills: Med/Surg, remote telemetry monitoring, use of Rapid Response Team, dysrhythmia interpretation, IV insulin protocols, colostomy care, feeding tube care and management, pre/post hemodialysis management, blood product administration, central line blood draw, peripheral line care and management, phlebotomy, PICC line management, IV insertion, heparin, PCA, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleuravac), CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen, isolation precautions, and wound care/wound vac
- Preferred skills: on-unit telemetry monitoring, port access, insulin management, CVA care, surgical drains, ABG interpretation, tracheostomy management, and Epic EMR experience
- Must pass an EKG test prior to start
- Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)
Additional Information
- Unit orientation is 24 hours; full hospital orientation takes place during week one with required daily class attendance
- Approximately 8–10 hours of pre-start online modules are required and must be completed before the assignment begins
- Candidates must be available to work as part of a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team, which may require reporting during catastrophic events, mass casualties, or disasters
- Mid-contract consolidation to a centralized location with reassignment to other units is possible
- Candidates must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- RTO of up to 7 days may be approved provided it does not fall on a holiday; no RTO is permitted during the first week of the assignment due to orientation
- Previous permanent, PRN, or EP employees of this health system must wait 12 months before being considered for a travel assignment, and facility rehire approval is required
- Local candidates are welcome; candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are eligible at a different rate
- Travel pairs are allowed, provided each candidate has their own transportation and is comfortable with potentially different schedules
- Navy and white scrubs are required
