Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level 2 Trauma Emergency Department position requiring ACLS, BLS, telemetry interpretation skills, and a 50-mile radius from the facility.

Details

• Acute care hospital emergency department with 32 beds, a triage area, and a separate Fast Track open 11am–11pm
• Typical ED patient population including chest pain, respiratory failure, abdominal pain, closed head injuries, and GSW; approximately 15% pediatric; major traumas stabilized and transferred to a nearby Level 1 Trauma Center
• Patient ratios: 1:4 in the main ER, 1:5 in a 5-bed lower acuity area, and 1:4–6 in Fast Track
• ER Techs provide support at a 1:10–12 ratio with 3 techs per shift
• Shift options: 0615–1845, 1100–2300, or 1815–0645 (12-hour nights)
• Every-other-weekend requirement (Saturday and Sunday)
• Holidays worked on a rotating schedule with permanent staff
• No floating outside of the ED
• EMR: Epic
• Ventilators in use: Servo; RNs may perform aerosols for non-vented patients
• IV Team available house-wide until 10pm Mon–Fri and until 3:30pm on weekends
• In-house pharmacy 24/7 using Accudose; no pharmacist stationed in the ED
• RT available in-house 24/7; RNs are responsible for EKGs

Requirements

• Active WV or Compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Required certifications: BLS and ACLS
• Preferred certifications: PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips required
• Epic EMR experience strongly beneficial
• Copy of an unexpired driver's license required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference
• Skills checklist completed within the past year required for consideration

Additional Information

• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify for the travel pay rate
• Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have a 2-year break in service before reapplying
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year without a 2-year break
• Orientation consists of 1–2 shifts with a preceptor
• TNCC certification may be obtainable on-site at the traveler's own expense if space is available
• Holiday coverage is required on a rotating basis with permanent staff
• Royal blue scrubs required
• Artificial nails are not permitted
• This is a traveler-friendly unit with a positive work environment experienced in hosting travel nurses
• Candidates may only be submitted to one WVU facility at a time
