Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Surgical ICU (SICU) position requiring at least 1 year of ICU or ED experience and Epic proficiency in a large academic medical center.
Details
- 20-bed adult SICU within a large academic university hospital system
- Cares for post-major-surgery patients and those with complex physiological needs, including peripheral vascular disease, cancer, hepatic/pancreatic/renal failure, and cardiac and pulmonary disease
- Manages patients with multi-system failure requiring Swan-Ganz monitoring, ventilator support, parenteral nutrition, and fluid/electrolyte correction
- Receives adult liver transplants and serves as a major referral center for adult ECMO and respiratory failure patients
- May receive overflow from Trauma, Neuro, Medicine, and Cardiac ICUs
- Standard nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2; ratio may shift to 1:3 when boarding general care, telemetry, or moderate care patients
- No on-call requirements
- Floating to designated unit(s) required during low census
- 12-hour shifts available on days (7:00–19:30) or nights (19:00–7:30), 3 days per week
- Every other weekend required
- Epic EMR — experience required
Requirements
- Active Michigan (MI) RN license required
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of current ICU or ED RN experience required; 2+ years of adult Surgical ICU experience preferred
- BSN preferred; CCRN preferred
- Epic EMR experience required
- 2 supervisory references required (charge nurse references not accepted)
Additional Information
- SICU charge nurses participate as adult Rapid Response Providers throughout the hospital
- Comprehensive orientation provided; orientation schedule and length are at the facility's discretion
- Flu vaccination is required from 10/31/25 through the end of Winter 2026 with no exemptions (religious or medical); candidates with a flu vaccine allergy must receive the allergy-free formulation
- Candidates who have been employed by any facility within this health system within the last 12 months are not eligible to apply
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- All time-off requests must be disclosed upfront at the time of initial consideration
