Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an LDRP position in a Women's Services unit, requiring at least 3 years of L&D experience and a full range of obstetric skills including C-section circulation, triage, and postpartum couplet care.
Details
- Work in a 14-bed LDRP unit where patients remain in the same room throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum
- Unit includes 2 OR suites for C-sections, with RNs responsible for circulating and recovering C-section patients
- 4 triage beds staffed by travelers
- Unit delivers approximately 90 births per month (1,200/year)
- Staffing follows AWHONN standards: 1:1 for active labor, 1:2 for paired cervical ripening patients, 1:3 for postpartum couplet care, and 1:3 for triage with resource nurse support at 4 patients
- Patient population includes 32+ weeks gestation, HTN with magnesium, BACs, TOLACs, gestational diabetes, antepartum, and home birth transfers requiring medical intervention; placenta previa and placenta accreta cases are not accepted
- RNs are required to titrate drips including Pitocin, Magnesium, and occasional Insulin protocols
- EFM system used is Centricity; Epic is the EMR (experience required)
- 12-hour day shifts, 7a–7p; weekends based on unit needs
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Travelers are first to float; floating may occur to other St. Luke's Treasure Valley sites (Meridian, Nampa, Boise) within primary skill set (L&D, Postpartum, or Antepartum) or as a sitter
- No block scheduling; travelers fill scheduling gaps around core staff, with shift preference considered on subsequent schedules
- OB hospitalist and Neonatal NP are available on-site 24/7; anesthesia is also in-house 24/7
- Staffing support includes a charge RN (no patient assignment), resource RN, triage RN, 1 CST per shift, and 1 CNA per shift (CNA may be reassigned to HUC role if needed)
Requirements
- Active ID or compact RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), and S.T.A.B.L.E.
- Minimum 3 years of L&D experience required
- Mother-baby (couplet care) experience required; 1 year preferred
- Must be proficient in attending deliveries and completing 1 hour of newborn care, triage, C-section circulation, and postpartum couplet care
- Experience with magnesium administration required
- Epic EMR experience required
- 2 professional references required for consideration: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Valid driver's license required for consideration
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include labor support, C-section circulation and recovery, triage assessment, postpartum couplet care, newborn stabilization and physical assessment within the first 2 hours of birth, and second sign-off on medications in the resource nurse role
- Unit features a unique model with a NICU embedded within 7 of the LDRP rooms
- Orientation consists of 4 unit-specific shifts covering C-section, labor, and postpartum; Epic and compliance assignments must be completed prior to start
- Hospital-issued scrubs are required; must be changed into and out of at the beginning and end of each shift — note that scrub policies may differ at float sites
- No fingernail lacquer, acrylic nails, or gel nails are permitted in this department
- Travel nurse pairs (duos) must have separate vehicles, as partners may be assigned to different sites or floated during the same shift
- Holidays are not set for travel RNs but may be required based on unit needs during the contract period
- Former permanent employees must have been separated for at least one year before being eligible for a travel assignment
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Charge nurse experience is preferred
