  • 6-bed NICU unit operating under an LDRP model
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1–3
  • Common patient diagnoses include hypoglycemia, mild respiratory distress, phototherapy, prematurity, IV antibiotic administration, and neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS)
  • NICU RNs attend both C-section and vaginal deliveries in a supportive role focused exclusively on the newborn
  • May occasionally be asked to care for stable postpartum mothers and babies; training will be provided for those without prior experience caring for mothers
  • EMR: Epic
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
  • 6–9 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule
  • Floating to a partner facility approximately 26 miles away is possible in low-census situations or based on staffing need
  • On-call requirements are rare and typically only occur during low-census periods
  • Scheduling is set by leadership on a 6-week rotating basis; travelers are expected to be flexible in filling gaps

Requirements

  • Active CO RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses will not be accepted
  • Current BLS (AHA) and NRP certifications required; pending certifications will not be accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of NICU experience required
  • Prior travel nursing experience preferred
  • Candidates must permanently reside at least 60 miles from the facility; a valid driver's license is required to verify permanent address
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, each including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

  • Orientation consists of 1–3 shifts with a preceptor; candidates must be physically present in-state for the orientation week, even if initial modules are completed remotely
  • Staffing is acuity-based with a minimum of two clinical staff (RN or RN/tech) on the unit at all times
  • The unit has both NICU and L&D charge RNs, with some RNs hired specifically into the NICU charge RN role
  • Holiday rotation coverage may be required
  • Blue hospital scrubs are provided
  • All time-off requests must be submitted prior to the start of the assignment
  • Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year; those previously employed through outside staffing firms will be considered
