Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring at least 2 years of experience, with day shift scheduling and every other weekend availability.

- Acute care hospital Med/Surg Tele unit
- Medical/surgical patient population
- Patient ratio of 1:5-6
- Day shift, 3x12-hour shifts (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM)
- Every other weekend required
- Floating to similar units is expected, typically at least once per week
- Epic EMR used; Pyxis and SBAR communication also utilized
- Heparin drips (gtts) are administered on this unit
- Contract length of 13–26 weeks accepted
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required (may be submitted with license pending)
- Current BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg RN experience required
- Heparin and insulin administration experience required
- Must pass an EKG test
- Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required prior to start (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)
Additional Information
- Administer and manage heparin drips and insulin for medical/surgical patients
- Orientation is 24 hours, conducted weekly
- Pre-start modules are required (approximately 8–10 hours for acute care roles) and must also be completed annually; modules are completed via online learning, Zoom, webinar, and in-person classes
- Navy scrubs required
- Must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays; RTO cannot be taken during the first week of assignment due to orientation
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday; additional RTO requests require facility approval; no RTO modifications after booking
- Contract staff are expected to participate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignments and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
- Mid-contract unit consolidation or reassignment may occur based on facility needs
- Local candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are accepted at a different rate
- Former permanent, PRN, or EP employees of Novant Health or New Hanover must wait 12 months before being considered as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
- Travel pairs are permitted; each traveler must have their own transportation and be flexible with differing schedules
- First-time travelers are not required for this position
