Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Med/Surg night shift position requiring 2 years of RN experience, ACLS, and a NC or compact RN license.
Details
- Neuro-focused Medical Surgical unit in a hospital setting
- General medicine patient population with a focus on neurological diagnoses
- Patient ratio of 1:6
- Night shift hours: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM (3x12-hour shifts)
- 36 or 48 hours per week accepted
- Contract length of 13–26 weeks
- Travelers are required to float first
- Every other weekend required (approximately 5–6 weekend shifts per contract)
- Manager-assigned scheduling
- Pyxis for medication management, Epic for documentation, and SBAR for communication
- Epic EMR experience is required
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required (may be pending at time of consideration)
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required (may be pending at time of consideration)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Must pass an EKG test prior to start
- Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required prior to start (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
Additional Information
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification and neuro experience are preferred
- Experience in or willingness to learn the charge nurse role is preferred
- 24-hour unit orientation provided, followed by weekly orientation sessions
- 8–10 hours of pre-start online modules required (must be completed annually); formats include online learning, Zoom, webinar, and in-person classes
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved provided it does not fall on a holiday and is not during the first week of the assignment; requests beyond 7 days require facility approval; no RTO can be arranged after booking
- Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and could be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters; unit consolidation or reassignment may occur mid-contract
- Former permanent, PRN, or EP employees of this health system must wait 12 months before working as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
- Candidates living within 50 miles of the facility are eligible but may be subject to a different pay rate
- Travel pairs are allowed provided each individual has their own transportation and is comfortable with potentially different schedules
- Contracts of longer than 13 weeks are available for interested candidates
