Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Telemetry/Med-Surg position at a Magnet-designated Level III Trauma Center in Milwaukee, WI, requiring at least one year of telemetry experience and a night shift schedule.

- Med-Surg unit specializing in Office Based Surgery (OBS) patients within a 933-bed, Magnet-designated, Level III Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center in Milwaukee, WI
- Patient population includes cardiac patients (CHF, AFib, dysrhythmias, EP studies, Coumadin loading), pre-surgical patients, cath lab, amputations, and open heart/vascular step-down cases
- Unit has 27 beds
- RN-to-patient ratios: 1:4–5 during days/PMs (0700–2330) and 1:6–8 overnight (2300–0700)
- 12-hour night shifts, 1900–0730, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- One holiday per contract required (one summer, one winter)
- Floating required to all inpatient areas within scope of practice; travelers float first and may be floated at any time during the shift to a comparable acuity floor
- Occasional float to ICU for appropriate Med-Surg patient assignments (rare); ED Holding float ratio is 1:4
- No on-call requirements
- RTO up to 7 days may be approved
- Charting is done in Epic (preferred); equipment includes Alaris pumps, Pyxis, and GE monitors
- Centralized telemetry monitoring with a dedicated tele tech
Requirements
- Active WI or compact RN license required
- BLS certification required
- Minimum 1 year of RN telemetry experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency with cardiac drips including Primacor, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dobutamine, heparin, Lasix, and insulin drips
- Skills required: telemetry reading, chest tube management, trach care, and wound care
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- One professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the last year required for consideration
- Candidate DOB and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration
- Candidate's middle name or initial required for consideration
Additional Information
- Unit support includes a charge nurse (2–3 patients on days, full assignment on nights), 24/7 unit secretary, 24/7 hospitalist, 24/7 respiratory therapy, phlebotomy support, and centralized telemetry monitoring
- Orientation consists of at least one shift to learn unit flow
- RNs must document pain scores before and after medication administration, and medication selection must align with the patient's documented pain score
- Facility adheres to a fatigue policy limiting all staff, including travelers, to no more than 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts
- Scrub color: any color accepted; camouflage and denim prints are not permitted
- Free parking is available on site
- First-time travelers are accepted for this position
- Former employees of Advocate Health or any of its subsidiaries must have been separated for at least 12 months before being eligible
- Local candidates are accepted at the same rate; no radius rule applies
