Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN Telemetry professional for a night shift Med Surg/Cardiac unit position requiring WI or compact RN license and at least 1 year of tele experience.

Details

• Med Surg unit specializing in Office Based Surgery (OBS) within a Level III Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center
• 27-bed unit caring for cardiac patients including cath lab, amputations, pre-surgical, CHF, EP studies, afib/dysrhythmias, and Coumadin loading cases
• RN patient ratios of 1:4-5 during days/PMs and 1:6-8 overnight
• 12-hour night shift schedule from 1900-0730, averaging 36 hours per week
• Weekend rotation required every other weekend
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required to other inpatient units within scope of practice, including occasional ICU or ED Holding (1:4 ratio) coverage
• Travelers are first to float during a shift to comparable acuity units
• Centralized telemetry monitoring supported by dedicated tele techs
• Unit supported by charge nurse, unit secretary, hospitalist, and respiratory therapy 24/7
• Uses EPIC EMR (preferred), along with Alaris pumps, Pyxis, and GE monitors

Requirements

• Active WI or compact RN license required
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 1 year of RN Telemetry experience required
• Experience with cardiac drips (Primacor, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dobutamine), heparin, lasix, and insulin drips
• Skilled in chest tube management, tracheostomy care, telemetry rhythm reading, and wound care
• EPIC EMR experience preferred
• Charge RN experience is a plus
• Professional reference required within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care for cardiac and post-surgical patients including monitoring, medication administration, and wound management
• Must accurately document pain levels before and after medication administration in accordance with facility pain management protocols
• One shift of orientation provided to learn unit flow and procedures
• Holiday coverage required for one summer and one winter holiday per contract
• Facility fatigue policy limits staff, including travelers, to no more than 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts
• Scrubs of any color accepted, excluding camo or denim
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate with no radius restrictions
• Former employees of Advocate Health or its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before becoming eligible for a travel assignment
