Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN - Telemetry for a Med Surg/Cardiac unit requiring a WI or compact RN license and at least 1 year of tele nursing experience.
Details
- Med Surg unit specializing in Office Based Surgery (OBS) with a cardiac-heart failure and telemetry focus in a Level III Trauma Center
- 27-bed unit caring for cardiac patients including cath lab, amputation, and pre-surgical cases, as well as CHF, EP studies, afib, dysrhythmias, and Coumadin loading patients
- RN patient ratios are 1:4-5 on days/PMs (0700-2330) and 1:6-8 overnight (2300-0700)
- Tech ratios are 1:6 on days and 1:7 on nights
- 12-hour night shift schedule from 1900-0730, totaling 36 standard hours per week
- Weekend rotation required on an every-other-weekend basis
- Floating required to other inpatient units within scope of practice, occasionally to ICU for appropriate Med Surg assignments, and to ED Holding at a 1:4 ratio
- Travelers float first, and floating may occur at any time during the shift to units of comparable acuity
- Unit supported by a charge nurse, 24/7 unit secretary, hospitalist, and RT, plus centralized telemetry monitoring and phlebotomy support
- Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris pumps, Pyxis medication system, and GE monitors
- No on-call requirements
Requirements
- Active RN license (WI or Compact) required
- BLS certification required
- Minimum 1 year of RN Telemetry experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Charge RN experience preferred
- Experience with cardiac drips (Primacor, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dobutamine), heparin, lasix, and insulin gtt required
- Skilled in chest tube management, tracheostomy care, telemetry reading, and wound care
- EPIC EMR experience preferred
- At least one professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required
- Candidate's middle name/initial, date of birth, and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide telemetry nursing care to a cardiac and med surg patient population, including monitoring and administering cardiac drips and managing chest tubes, tracheostomies, and wounds
- Must document pain levels before and after administering pain medication, ensuring the medication given matches the ordered pain scale, and call for a new order if levels do not align
- Orientation includes at least one shift to learn unit flow
- Holiday coverage required for one summer and one winter holiday per contract
- No radius rules apply; local candidates accepted at the same rate
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Former employees of Advocate Health or its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before becoming eligible for a travel assignment
- Scrubs may be any color except camo or denim
- Free parking is available
- Time off requests up to 7 days may be approved
- Overtime requires manager approval
- Staff must adhere to a fatigue policy limiting work to no more than 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts
