Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ICU position at a Level 3 Trauma, Stroke Center of Excellence hospital in North Carolina, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and the ability to float regionally.
Details
- 40-bed ICU unit at a 457-bed Level 3 Trauma and Stroke Center of Excellence facility
- Patient population includes ventilated patients, stroke and thrombectomy patients, high-flow oxygen (Optiflow/BiPAP), overdose patients, CRRT, GI bleeds, and some trauma patients
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:1–3
- 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a), 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating required within Region 1 (Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH), per regional needs and within scope of practice — candidates who are not agreeable to floating should not apply
- EMR: Epic
- IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips
- Unit-specific equipment includes Arctic Sun, Hemosphere, Belmont Rapid Transfuser, and LifeFlow
- Telemetry monitoring via hardwire monitors and travel tele boxes
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in critical care drips including insulin, vasopressors, and sedation
- Experience managing invasive lines (arterial lines, CVP), cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tubes, ventilator management, blood product administration, and wound care
- At least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the last year required for consideration
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Candidate's permanent address must be 50+ miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include phlebotomy, as unit RNs are primarily responsible for lab draws (limited phlebotomy support available from the hospital)
- Unit support includes CNAs, a 24/7 charge nurse, IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy (RT) 24/7, hospitalist 24/7, and intensivist 24/7
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays
- Orientation includes facility-level NEO and 2 days of departmental orientation
- Navy scrubs required
- Free designated parking available on-site
- Unit culture is described as highly collaborative on both day and night shifts
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
- Candidates who have worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
