Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Surgical ICU (SICU) travel assignment at an academic oncology hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of current ICU experience and Epic proficiency.
Details
- Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) within an academic oncology hospital setting
- Adult patient population managing complex diagnoses including hemorrhagic and hypovolemic shock, sepsis, ARDS, craniotomy, ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, intracranial hypertension, and delirium
- Specialized procedures include external ventricular drain (EVD) management, ICP monitoring, massive transfusion protocol (MTP), mechanical ventilation, heated high flow/BiPAP/CPAP, tracheostomy management, CRRT, and vasopressor titration
- Night shift position: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30
- Epic EMR experience required
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active Ohio RN license or compact RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of current, continuous ICU experience required — experience must be active within the last 12 months and specific to the SICU specialty
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
- Proficiency in Epic EMR required
- Oncology experience preferred but not required
- Travel nursing experience required — first-time travelers will not be considered
- Nursing degree from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program required
- Required clinical skills include: IV therapy, arterial line management, central/PICC line care, blood product administration, port access and management, ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP management, high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), ABG interpretation, CRRT/CVVHD, vasopressor and cardiac drip titration, CVA/acute stroke management, continuous IV sedation, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, IV insulin protocols, and multisystem organ dysfunction management
- 2 professional references required: at least 1 must be from a manager, director, or formal leadership role (supervisor); a charge RN is acceptable as a second reference; coworker references are not accepted
Additional Information
- Local candidates are accepted at the same rate as travelers
- Former employees of the facility are eligible for a travel assignment after a minimum 6-month separation; current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are not eligible
- All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted prior to or at the time of consideration and will be built into the contract; RTO is limited to 7 days or fewer
- Ohio state fingerprinting is required as part of the credentialing process and must be completed promptly after contract signing — candidates outside Ohio may need to travel to an in-state fingerprinting location or will receive a mailed packet requiring urgent completion
- Multiple parking permit options are available for purchase through CampusParc, ranging from budget surface lot access with shuttle service to 24/7 garage access at the medical center

Units are nice, staff are kind. Single patient rooms with 4:1 ratios day and night on med surg.
Cons
Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
