Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Surgical ICU position requiring 2+ years of current ICU experience and OH or compact licensure.

Details

  • Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) with an oncology patient population
  • Adult patient population with diagnoses including hemorrhagic/hypovolemic shock, sepsis, septic shock, pneumonia, ARDS, craniotomy, ischemic/hemorrhagic stroke, intracranial hypertension, and delirium
  • 13-week assignment with night shift schedule (3x12 hours, 19:00-07:30) or D/N rotating based on department needs
  • Shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period, though changes are not guaranteed
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Performs specialized procedures including EVD management, ICP monitoring, Massive Transfusion Protocol, mechanical ventilation, heated high flow, BiPAP/CPAP, tracheostomy management, CRRT, and vasopressor titration

Requirements

  • Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of current ICU experience required, consistently worked within the last 12 months and specific to the specialty applied for
  • Nursing education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • Skilled in IV therapy, arterial line management, central/PICC line care, and blood product administration
  • Skilled in ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, and airway suctioning
  • Skilled in CRRT/CVVHD and acute/chronic renal failure management
  • Skilled in continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Skilled in CVA/acute stroke management and interpretation/management of dysrhythmias
  • Skilled in IV insulin protocols and management of multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
  • Two professional references required, with at least one from a manager, director, or supervisor; a Charge RN is acceptable as the second reference; coworker references not accepted

Additional Information

  • Oncology experience preferred but not required
  • First-time travelers with 2+ years of ICU experience will be considered
  • Locals accepted at the same rate
  • Former employees eligible for a travel assignment after being away from the facility for 6 months or more
  • Current employees are ineligible for a travel assignment at this health system
  • RTO must be submitted with the initial application and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
  • Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly after signing the contract due to strict compliance timelines

Units are nice, staff are kind. Single patient rooms with 4:1 ratios day and night on med surg.

Cons

Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
