Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Surgical ICU position at a major academic medical center in Ohio, requiring 2 years of ICU experience and an active OH or compact RN license.
Details
- Work setting is a Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) at a large academic teaching hospital
- Night shift schedule: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (3x12-hour shifts)
- 36 hours per week, every other weekend required
- Floating is required
- Call is required
- Patient population includes surgical, trauma, and critically ill patients requiring complex ICU-level care
- Epic EMR (preferred experience)
- Medication systems in use include Pyxis, Accudose, and Omnicell
- SBAR communication framework used
Requirements
- Active OH RN license or compact RN license required and must be in hand at time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience required
- Trauma Level II experience required
- Surgical ICU, Trauma ICU, Burn ICU, or Transplant ICU experience preferred
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Nursing degree from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program required
- 2 professional references required: at least 1 must be from a manager, director, or formal leadership role (e.g., supervisor); a Charge RN is acceptable as the second reference; co-worker references are not accepted
- Required clinical skills include: IV therapy, arterial line management, central line care/management, PICC line management, blood product administration, care of ventilated patients, BiPAP/CPAP management, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), ABG interpretation, titration of vasoactive drips, continuous IV sedation, procedural sedation administration/monitoring, management of multisystem organ dysfunction/failure, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, IV insulin protocols, and isolation precautions/PPE
- Preferred skill: Pulmonary artery line/Swan Ganz monitoring

- All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted prior to consideration and will be built into the contract; RTO is limited to 7 days or less
- Former employees of the facility are eligible after a minimum 6-month separation; current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are not eligible
- Ohio state fingerprinting is required and must be completed promptly after signing a contract — candidates outside Ohio may need to travel to an in-state fingerprinting location or complete a mailed packet; detailed instructions are provided by the credentialing team
- Candidates may purchase parking permits through CampusParc; options include a medical center garage permit with 24/7 access, a budget permit with shuttle service to the medical center, and additional surface lot options
