Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Post Surgical Care Med/Surg Tele position at a Level III Trauma teaching hospital in North Carolina, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and the ability to float within a regional hospital system.

- Post Surgical Care unit in a 457-bed Level III Trauma teaching hospital designated as a Chest Pain Center, Stroke Center of Excellence, and Bariatric Center of Excellence
- 32-bed unit serving a post-surgical patient population with common diagnoses including small bowel obstructions, general surgery (colectomy, colon/small bowel resections, nephrectomy, hysterectomy, mastectomy, appendectomy, cholecystectomy, hernia repairs, splenectomy, thyroidectomy), kidney stones, pneumothorax, bariatric surgery, rib fractures, hip fractures, joint replacements, and cellulitis
- Patient ratios of 1:4–6 RN, with potential surge ratios of 1:7–8
- 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM–7:00 AM, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating required within Region 1 (Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) — candidates who are not agreeable to floating should not apply
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- Equipment includes BD Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Masimo monitors, and remote telemetry monitoring
Requirements
- Active NC RN license or compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, NG tubes, ostomy care, drains, wound care, continuous bladder irrigation, tube feeds, and cardiac rhythm interpretation
- Candidates must have a permanent address at least 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- Unit support includes NA+ CNAs (4 per shift), 24/7 charge nurse coverage, 24/7 phlebotomy, an IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy (RT) 24/7, hospitalist 24/7, intensivist 24/7, and a resource nurse as staffing allows
- Remote telemetry monitoring and tech support available
- Orientation includes facility NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; if contracted hours cannot be met, time must be added to the end of the contract
- Schedule is posted on a 6-week cycle
- Navy scrubs required
- Free parking available on site
- Candidates who have previously worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
