Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center in Winston-Salem, NC, requiring at least 2 years of experience and comfort working across both general medicine and behavioral health units.

Details

  • Large 885-bed Level 1 Trauma academic medical center and Chest Pain/Stroke Center
  • Unit 9 North Tower consists of two distinct units: Unit A (General Medicine) and Unit B (Behavioral Health, locked unit)
  • Unit A patient population includes DM, GI, respiratory, renal, wounds, and observation patients with a goal LOS under 24 hours
  • Unit B patient population includes all BH diagnoses, dementia, memory care, developmental delays, and SI
  • Patient ratios: Unit A – RN 1:6; Unit B – RN 1:5
  • Procedures and skills include chest tubes, tracheostomy care, PIV starts, drain and tube management, and PCA pump management
  • IV drip management includes Amiodarone, Fentanyl PCA, Ketamine PCA, Dilaudid PCA, and Heparin
  • EMR: Epic (experience noted); IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; centralized telemetry monitoring
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • Floating may be required to: 8 Reynolds, 8 North, ACE, 9 Ardmore, 10 Ardmore, 8 North-B, and 8 Ardmore

Requirements

  • Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS; Unit B also requires CPI (can be obtained on site)
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required; most recent experience must be within the last year
  • Experience in Med/Surg Telemetry required, including telemetry strip reading
  • Comfort and ability to work across both a general medicine unit and a locked behavioral health unit
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively under moderate to high stress
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

  • Orientation includes facility-level NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Unit support includes CNAs, HUC/Receptionist, Charge Nurse, Phlebotomy, Rapid Response Team, RT 24/7, Hospitalist 24/7, Intensivist 24/7, and centralized telemetry monitoring; Unit B also has 24/7 Security and Mental Health Technicians (MHT)
  • Travelers are expected to cover 75% of assigned holidays
  • Required scrub color: royal blue

  • Unit culture is described as patient-centered, highly reliable, and team-oriented
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • Former employees who held a permanent position must have been separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year before being considered
