Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced NICU RN for a Level II NICU night shift position requiring at least 2 years of recent specialty experience and both Missouri and Kansas RN licenses in hand.
Details
- Level II NICU in a hospital setting with 5 beds, admitting infants 34 weeks gestational age and above; higher acuity or lower gestational age newborns are stabilized and transferred to a higher-level NICU
- Patient population includes neonates 29–34 weeks and neonates >34 weeks
- Patient ratio is 1:2–3
- Relevant skills include blood glucose monitoring, bottle/breast/gavage feedings, isolation precautions, central line/implanted line care, UAC and UVC management, and care for neonates with abstinence syndrome
- Specialized procedures may include needle aspiration, chest tube placement, UVC/UAC line placement, lumbar puncture, intubation, surfactant administration, resuscitation, and initiation of passive cooling
- Standard NICU equipment in use includes IV pumps, syringe feeding pumps, phototherapy equipment, incubators/isolettes/Omnibeds, and radiant warmers; neonatal echo and telehealth neonatologist support are also available
- Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:00
- Minimum of 4–5 weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday) required per 6-week schedule period, plus a minimum of 2 Fridays per 6-week schedule
- 2 mandatory on-call shifts required per 6-week schedule
- Floating may be required to the well newborn nursery, postpartum, and between departments, units, and facilities as needed
- Block scheduling is not available for this position
Requirements
- Active Missouri (MO) or Compact RN license required; both Kansas and Missouri licenses must be in hand at time of consideration, as floating between facilities may require licensure in both states
- Current BLS and NRP certifications required; STABLE certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years of recent NICU specialty experience required, with at least 1 full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months and no employment gap greater than 90 days in the past year
- Experience in Mother/Baby and Level II NICU settings required
- Experience cross-trained to attend deliveries and provide 1:1 newborn recovery care is preferred; experience with postpartum/couplet care is also preferred
- 2 professional references required: one must be supervisor level or above, and the second may be a charge RN; all references must be from individuals who have worked with the candidate within the past year
- Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
Additional Information
- RN will be expected to assist with well newborn assessments and procedures when NICU census is low
- Travelers are not required to take couplet care assignments, though candidates with that experience are preferred
- Cross-training to postpartum/couplet care is standard for core unit nurses; travelers may be asked to support this area
- Charge RN assignments and holiday shift coverage may be required as needed
- RTO is limited to a maximum of 7 days for the contract period; RTO and scheduling requests must be submitted at time of consideration
- Travel partners are not accepted for this position
- First-time travelers are not eligible for this position
- Completion of online compliance modules (approximately 10–15 hours) is required prior to the start date
