Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Oncology position at a cancer specialty hospital, requiring 3+ years of inpatient oncology experience and chemotherapy certification.
Details
- Inpatient Med/Surg Oncology unit within a cancer specialty hospital
- Oncology patient population including bladder, kidney, breast, colorectal, liver, lung, ovarian/uterine, pancreatic, and prostate cancer
- Day shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- Weekend work required
- Floating required
- Charting and documentation via Epic
- Pyxis medication dispensing system in use
Requirements
- Active California RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and Chemotherapy (CHEMO) certification
- Minimum 3 years of inpatient oncology RN experience required
- Demonstrated experience administering chemotherapy via IV push, continuous infusion, and oral routes
- Experience with body fluid handling post-chemotherapy and cytotoxic spill management and disposal
- Experience monitoring chemotherapy and recognizing/communicating abnormal lab values
- Familiarity with oncology medications including antibiotics, antiemetics, antitumor agents, corticosteroids, hormonal therapy, and Neupogen
- Post-surgical care experience required
Additional Information
- Caribbean blue scrubs required; scrubs are not provided
- Preferred experience includes biotherapy (active/non-specific immunotherapy, interferons, interleukins, cytotoxic therapy), bone marrow administration, stem cell therapies, graft rejection, and graft-versus-host disease management
- Preferred oncology specialties include Brain, ENT, Leukemia/Blood Dyscrasias, Lymphoma/Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, Melanoma, and Multiple Myeloma
- Preferred clinical skills include management of Acute Tumor Lysis Syndrome (ATLS), anaphylaxis, extravasation injury, hemorrhage, sepsis, spinal cord compression, and pain management
- Additional preferred skills include chest tube care, colostomy/ileostomy management, Foley catheter insertion, dysrhythmia interpretation, neutropenic precautions, tracheostomy care, wound care, and phlebotomy
- Preferred experience with hospice care, advanced directives, patient/family education, radiation therapy, symptom management, and pediatric team collaboration
