Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an LDRP (Labor & Delivery/Recovery/Postpartum) position requiring at least 3 years of L&D experience and the ability to float across multiple St. Luke's Treasure Valley sites.

Details

  • Work setting is an acute care hospital LDRP unit with 14 LDRP beds, where patients remain in the same room throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum
  • Unit includes 2 OR suites for C-sections, 4 triage beds staffed by travelers, and a NICU embedded within 7 of the LDRP rooms
  • Patient population includes 32+ week gestation patients, HTN patients on magnesium, BACs, TOLACs, gestational diabetes, antepartum patients, and a diverse community population — placenta previa and placenta accreta are not managed on this unit
  • Unit delivers approximately 90 births per month (1,200/year)
  • Staffing follows AWHONN standards: 1:1 for active labor, 1:2 for cervical ripening pairs, 1:3 for postpartum couplet care, and 1:3 for triage with a resource nurse available at 4 patients
  • RNs are expected to circulate and recover C-section patients, staff triage, attend deliveries, perform 1 hour of newborn care, and provide postpartum couplet care
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including Pitocin, Magnesium, and occasional Insulin protocols
  • Fetal monitoring system is Centricity; telemetry capability exists on the unit but is rarely used
  • EMR is Epic; compliance and Epic Curio assignments must be completed prior to start
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a
  • Weekend shifts based on unit needs — no set minimum requirement
  • Float requirement to all St. Luke's Treasure Valley sites (Meridian, Nampa, Boise) in primary skill set (L&D, Postpartum, or Antepartum) or as a sitter
  • No on-call requirement

Requirements

  • Active Idaho RN license or compact RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses are not accepted
  • Required certifications (must be active, copies required): BLS, ACLS, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), and S.T.A.B.L.E.
  • Minimum 3 years of L&D experience required
  • Mother-baby/postpartum experience required; minimum 1 year preferred
  • Must be proficient in attending deliveries, newborn stabilization and assessment within the first 2 hours, triage, C-section circulation, and postpartum couplet care
  • Experience with magnesium administration required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Driver's license required for consideration
  • 2 professional references required for consideration: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years — both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Former permanent employees must have been separated from the facility for at least one year before being eligible for a travel assignment
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
  • 4-shift unit-specific orientation provided, covering C-section, labor, and postpartum; compliance and Epic Curio modules must be completed before the start date
  • Charge RNs do not carry a patient assignment; an admin supervisor is present every shift along with a resource RN and triage RN
  • Support staff includes 1 CST per shift and 1 CNA per shift (CNA may be reassigned to HUC role if there is a sick call)
  • OB hospitalist and Neonatal NP are in-house 24/7; anesthesia is also in-house 24/7
  • Hospital-issued scrubs are required and must be changed into and out of at the beginning and end of each shift; scrub color may vary by site
  • Acrylic, gel, and lacquered nails are not permitted in the department
  • Block scheduling is not available; travelers fill scheduling gaps around core staff for their first contract, with scheduling preferences considered in subsequent contracts
  • Holiday coverage may be required based on unit needs during the contract period
  • Travel duos must have separate vehicles, as travelers may be assigned to different sites or float during a shift
American Traveler Job ID #P-730143. Pay package is based on 12 hour shifts and 36 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with tax-free stipend amount to be determined. Posted job title: Travel RN - Labor & Delivery - LDRP

Pros

I couldn’t have asked for a better experience for my first travel assignment. American Traveler has made the entire process feel easy from start to finish. Everything was explained clearly, and I always knew what the next step was, i never felt like i was left in the dark. One of my favorite things has been how communicative everyone is. Whether it’s my recruiter, Amanda, or Iranna from payroll, I always get a quick response when I have a question. It’s nice working with a team that actually follows up and keeps you in the loop. Amanda has been awesome throughout my assignment. She checks in regularly with a call or text just to see how things are going and make sure I don’t need anything. That level of support has really stood out to me. I’m rly happy I chose American Traveler for my first assignment, and I wouldn’t hesitate to work with them again.
