Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Telemetry Float Pool position in Chandler, AZ, requiring the ability to titrate cardiac drips and a valid AZ or Compact RN license.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting with a Telemetry Float Pool assignment spanning multiple units and campuses
- Float pool covers CV Telemetry (32 beds), Neuro Telemetry (28 beds), and Med/Surg units (29–32 beds) across two campuses approximately 9 miles apart
- Travelers are first priority to float and may float to Cardiac Tele, ICU, MedSurg, observation floors, holding areas (including Cath Lab and ER), and between campuses mid-shift
- Campus and unit assignment is communicated 1.5 hours prior to shift start
- Patient ratios are 1:3–4 on telemetry units and 1:4 on Med/Surg units
- Patient populations include post-cath lab, post-vascular, day 2 CABG, general tele, neuro post-surgical, post-craniotomy, CVAs post-TPA, and surgical/oncology/ortho patients (no pediatrics under 15)
- Cardiac drip titration required (Amiodarone, Cardene, Nitro, Heparin, Dobutamine — titrate down only on some units)
- Centralized telemetry monitoring; RNs must be able to interpret EKGs
- Charting system: Cerner
- 12-hour shifts, 7a–7p or 7p–7a (nights)
- 4 weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday) per scheduling period required
- Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
- RT, pharmacy, and charge nurses available 24/7 on all units; charge nurses carry no patient assignment
- PCTs available at a ratio of 1 per 16 patients on tele units; SWAT RN available for difficult IV access
- Navy scrubs required across all units
- No ventilator management required on telemetry or Med/Surg units
Requirements
- Active AZ or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Required certifications (active, not pending): BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Ability to titrate cardiac drips is mandatory
- EKG interpretation skills required
- Telemetry and/or Med/Surg acute care experience required
- Must provide 2 professional references: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Valid driver's license required for consideration
- Candidate must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (DL used to verify permanent address)
Additional Information
- Candidates must pass a Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer confirmation — 2 attempts allowed within 48 hours of offer; failure results in DNU status with this health system's AZ and Sacramento regions for 6 months
- A pass/fail Sterile Technique simulation lab (Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes) is administered on day one of orientation; failure results in the same DNU consequence
- Floor-specific orientation is 2 days/shifts per unit
- Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by this health system or its affiliates within the past year are not eligible; candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- First-time travelers are not explicitly approved for this position given the complexity of float pool requirements and mandatory pre-offer testing
