Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level III trauma teaching hospital in North Carolina, with the unit actively transitioning to a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) focus.

- Work in a 14-bed private room Medical Telemetry unit at a 457-bed Level III trauma teaching hospital with a Chest Pain Center, Stroke Center of Excellence, and Bariatric Center of Excellence
- Unit is actively transitioning from Med/Surg Tele to a PCU focus — candidates must be comfortable with progressive care patients and able to titrate drips
- Common patient diagnoses include heart failure, chest pain, fluid resuscitation/blood product management, COPD, cardiac cath pre/post care, and medical overflow
- RN-to-patient ratio is 1:4–6 (acuity dependent) for Med/Surg Tele, 1:4 for PCU; ratio may surge to 1:7–8 during peak times
- Telemetry is remotely monitored at an off-unit arrhythmia center, with visual EKG capability at the nurses' station
- EMR: Epic; IV pump: Alaris; med dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips; additional equipment includes bladder scanner, EKG machine, transport monitor, and Patient Safety Net
- Night shift: 1845–0715, 12-hour shifts, 36 hours/week
- Schedule rotates every 6 weeks with every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call requirements
- Floating may be required within Region 1: Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division (CMC Main, Mercy, LCH — peds only)
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in PIV starts, NG tube placement and management, Pleurx drains, surgical drain management, chest tube management, cardiac rhythm interpretation, non-titratable cardiac drips, and TR bands
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
- One professional reference dated within the past year required, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
- This position is not open to first-time travelers
- Candidates who have held a permanent position at any Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
- Unit support includes CNAs (ADLs, phlebotomy, 12-lead EKGs, glucometer), IV/VAT team, charge nurse, resource nurse (when staffing allows), RT available 24/7, and hospitalist available 24/7
- Orientation includes facility NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; time must be added to the end of the contract if contracted hours cannot otherwise be met
