Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg IMC/Tele position at a Level II Trauma facility, requiring at least 1 year of telemetry or stepdown experience with a strong cardiac background and drip titration skills.
Details
- Acute care stepdown/IMC unit (6N) in a Level II Trauma hospital setting
- 28-bed unit with a heavy cardiac focus — up to 75% of patients are cardiac, including pre/post caths, chest pain, NSTEMIs, and procedural cardiac cases; general population includes CHF, COPD, pneumonia, diabetes, dialysis, altered mental status, nephrology, hematology, wounds, and overflow strokes
- Nurse-to-patient ratios average 1:4–5 on days/evenings and 1:5–7 on nights (must be comfortable with up to 7 patients on nights)
- Nurse aides available at approximately 1:9 on days/evenings and 1:14 on nights
- RNs are required to titrate drips; common drips include insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, diltiazem, and Lasix
- Respiratory equipment on unit includes continuous CPAP/BiPAP, high flow, Vapotherm, nebulizers, and chest PT; no vents
- Telemetry techs provide 24/7 remote monitoring; a unit monitor is also available for nurses to verify rhythm capture
- Charting is done in Cerner (transitioning to Epic)
- 12-hour night shifts, 1900–0730
- Every other weekend (EOW) requirement covers Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
- Every other holiday (EOH) required
- No self-scheduling; block scheduling is accommodated when possible with varied shift start times of 0700, 1100, or 1900
- Floating to other Med/Surg floors is required on a rotating basis; floating outside the Med/Surg cluster is possible, particularly for 1:1 patient observer needs
- Agency staff are not placed on call, though shifts may be reduced or staff reallocated based on census needs
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active WI or compact RN license required by start date
- Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of telemetry, IMC, or stepdown RN experience required
- Majority of experience must be in a cardiac setting given the unit's heavy cardiac caseload
- Drip titration experience required
- Strong communication, teamwork, and work ethic expected
- Previous travel nursing experience preferred
- 2 professional references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference from within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years of relevant experience
Additional Information
- Orientation consists of one 12-hour off-unit day followed by one 12-hour on-unit shift
- Scrubs may be any color; clean and professional appearance required
- Candidates who have previously worked at this facility as permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their consideration date, and hospital approval is required
- Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local, which may affect travel pay eligibility
- Local candidates are accepted for this position
