Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU/Stepdown) position requiring at least 2 years of experience, night shift availability, and active ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.
Details
- Acute care stepdown/PCU unit in a Level 3 trauma hospital
- 22-bed unit with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio and 1:10 CNA/PCT support
- Common patient diagnoses include heart failure, AFib, respiratory distress, and stroke
- RNs are required to titrate drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, and nitroglycerin
- RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry strips
- CPAP management is part of the scope of care; RNs are expected to troubleshoot RT equipment
- Charge nurse is present each shift and takes a full patient assignment
- EMR: Epic
- 12-hour night shifts (1830–0700)
- Every other weekend required
- 1 major and 1 minor holiday required
- Cyclic scheduling; self-scheduling is not offered
- Floating to the ICU may be required for nurses with appropriate experience
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active IA RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- PCU/stepdown or telemetry experience required
- Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips independently
- Experience titrating drips (e.g., Cardizem, amiodarone, nitroglycerin) required
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Driver's license required — used to verify permanent residence is at least 50 miles from the facility
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Artificial nails are prohibited; refusal to remove will result to contract termination
Additional Information
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; a driver's license is used to confirm permanent address
- Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- During orientation, RNs must pass an open-book skills exam with a minimum score of 90%; failure to pass results in contract termination
- Orientation consists of 1 twelve-hour shift in the department
- All requested time off must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved after the consideration process
- Fast-paced unit with high admission and discharge volume; successful nurses demonstrate a positive attitude, teamwork, and patient-centered care
