Details

  • Hospital-based Labor & Delivery unit at a Magnet-designated academic teaching center
  • Extreme high-risk Level 3 Perinatal center — approximately 70% of patients are complex high-risk cases
  • Facility features a Level 4 NICU serving as a regional center, with approximately 150 births per month
  • Patient population includes antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn care, including high-risk obstetrical cases
  • Patient ratio is 1:1
  • Unit includes 2 ORs for C-sections, BTLs, and postpartum D&Cs; a second L&D RN serves as 'baby catcher' for well, non-compromised newborns
  • Unit also provides outpatient services when the clinic is closed
  • Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30
  • Weekend work is required
  • Floating within the hospital is required; floating to sister hospitals is not required
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Charting system: Epic (experience required)
  • Scrubs in any color; scrubs are provided for OR personnel

Requirements

  • Active WA RN license or compact RN license valid in Washington — pending licenses are not accepted
  • Minimum 3 years of Labor & Delivery RN experience required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Required certifications: BLS, NRP, and FHM
  • Preferred certifications: AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring, EFM Certification, NCC
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred; academic medical center experience may substitute for travel experience
  • COVID vaccination and booster required — no exceptions
  • Two professional references required, with supervisory references strongly preferred
  • Core L&D skills required include: labor and delivery management, assisting with vaginal and high-risk deliveries, circulating for C-sections, hemorrhage/shock management, sterile vaginal exams, and use of external and internal fetal monitoring
  • Medication administration experience required, including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate therapy, antihypertensives, antiseizure medications, insulin drips, and prostaglandins
  • Neonatal delivery room care skills required, including APGAR scoring, baby nurse/catcher role, ID/security banding, and use of radiant warmers
  • IV therapy skills required, including starting and maintaining IVs, administering blood products, and using infusion pumps and drips

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates are accepted at the same rate — no radius restriction
  • RTO is limited to a maximum of 1 week for the duration of the contract; no RTO may be requested during the first 2 weeks (including orientation week)
  • Block scheduling cannot be accommodated
  • Candidates who were previously employed by UW must have a minimum of 18 months of separation from the facility before being eligible to return as a traveler
  • Non-billable online modules are required prior to the start date — approximately 6–8 hours for RN onboarding plus 2 additional hours for OBIX L&D modules; WA suicide prevention training (6 hours) may also be required
  • Preferred skills include: forceps/vacuum extraction, hemorrhage/shock management, amniocentesis assistance, cervical cerclage, cardiac dysrhythmia interpretation, and care for IOL/TOP patients
  • Experience with Level 3 Perinatal and Level 4 NICU environments is preferred
