Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Outpatient Surgery position requiring a GA or Compact RN license and proficiency across PreOp, PostOp, and PACU settings.

Details

  • Outpatient surgery setting covering PreOp, PostOp, and PACU
  • Patient population ranges from pediatrics to geriatrics
  • Surgical specialties include retina surgery, total hip/knee replacement, hand surgery, breast oncology, breast reconstruction, ENT, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, hernia repair, and podiatry
  • Patient ratio is 1:4 with an average daily census of 10–18 patients across 5 rooms
  • Shift is day shift with varied start times (6:00 AM–3:30 PM, 6:30 AM–4:00 PM, 8:00 AM–5:30 PM, or 8:30 AM–6:00 PM); 4x9-hour shifts
  • No weekend requirements
  • No on-call requirement; however, RNs may be required to stay late based on a dots/double-dots system — if assigned a dot, you must stay until only one room remains after 3:00 PM; if assigned a double dot, you must stay until two rooms remain after 3:00 PM
  • Floating required within all divisions of Outpatient Surgery
  • EMR: Epic; medication dispensing via Pyxis

Requirements

  • Active RN license — GA or Compact license required
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS
  • Minimum 2 years of outpatient surgery RN experience required
  • Experience working in PreOp, PostOp, and PACU settings required
  • Proficiency with IV insertion and maintenance, conscious sedation, and general and local anesthesia required
  • Experience with orthopedic, ENT, plastics, podiatry, and general surgery cases
  • Two supervisory references (manager level or above; charge nurse references not accepted) highly preferred

Additional Information

  • Scrubs are provided by the facility
  • All RTO must be finalized prior to offer; no schedule requests will be accepted after offer or upon arrival on-site; RTO during the first week of the assignment is not permitted
  • Maximum RTO is 7 days per contract
  • Holiday coverage is required: if 1–2 major holidays fall within the assignment period, the traveler is expected to work all of them with no holiday RTO permitted; if 3 major holidays fall within the assignment period, the traveler must work at least 2, and 1 holiday RTO request may be considered for approval
  • Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve/New Year's Day
  • Candidates who have previously worked at this health system in any permanent, per diem, or float pool capacity must have been away from all facilities within the system for at least 1 full year before applying as a traveler
  • Travelers who previously canceled or received a facility do-not-return must complete one successful assignment outside of the health system before reapplying
  • Local candidates are accepted
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Full compliance with onboarding requirements must be completed prior to start; delays may result in a two-week pushback due to a bi-weekly orientation schedule
