Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a night shift travel position at a Level 1 Trauma Center in Chicago, IL, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and an active IL RN license.
Details
- Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- Every other weekend required (approximately 2 weekends per month)
- ICU nurses are expected to float regularly between multiple ICU units, including Burn ICU, CCU, Medical ICU, SICU, and Neuro ICU
- Float assignments outside the primary unit, including to med-surg floors, may occur at the facility's discretion
- Float assignments to other Cook County facilities within a 50-mile radius are possible, with notification as little as 2 hours before shift start
- No home unit is guaranteed — floating is a standard and frequent expectation
- If floated outside primary competency, a team-based care model is implemented for support
- Charting system: Cerner (experience required)
- Level 1 Trauma Center setting
- No on-call requirements
- First week of orientation and precepting will be on day shift
Requirements
- Active IL RN license in hand required — pending licensure is not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of recent acute care ICU experience required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- Proficiency with Cerner EMR required
- Strong ICU clinical skills required, including: IV therapy, arterial line management, central line care, ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP management, care of ventilated patients, ABG interpretation, ETT/NT suctioning, continuous IV sedation, titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, and management of multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
- COVID vaccination proof required — no exceptions
- Two professional supervisor references from the past 2 years required prior to consideration, with at least one from the most recent employer
Additional Information
- Scrub color: Navy blue (not provided by facility)
- RTO is limited to a maximum of 5 days per contract, with no more than 2 consecutive days off
- RTO on weekends is not permitted
- No RTO on holidays or the day before or after a holiday
- Block scheduling and special scheduling requests are not approved
- Candidates who previously worked at a Cook County Health facility must undergo full recredentialing and attend orientation again, regardless of the length of their break in service
- Local candidates (within 75 miles of the facility) are accepted and preferred
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
