  • Start Date: Jul 20, 2026
  • Length: 13 weeks

Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Oncology unit at a Level II Trauma facility, requiring a WV or compact RN license and at least 2 years of experience.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting at a Level II Trauma facility
  • Unit is a 36-bed Med/Surg, Post-Op, Oncology, and Telemetry unit
  • Patient population includes general Med/Surg patients, some Post-Op (lap chole, lap appy — no post-op ortho), oncology patients with complications (neutropenic precautions, pneumonia, infections), and occasional psych patients requiring 1:1 sitter coverage
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:5–6
  • Heparin is the only titratable drip — no cardiac drips
  • Philips telemetry monitors are used; a central monitor tech covers the hospital, but RNs must be able to read and interpret strips independently
  • CPAP and BiPap are available on the unit; managed by Respiratory Therapy
  • Charting is done in Epic
  • 12-hour day shifts (7a–7p); night shifts also available (7p–7a)
  • Every-other-weekend requirement (Saturday and Sunday for both days and nights)
  • Floating may be required to other Med/Surg or Telemetry units
  • 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active WV or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS certification (AHA) required
  • ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Biotherapy certification is a strong plus
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • BSN not required
  • Experience with chest tubes and PleurX chest tubes is highly preferred
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips required
  • A copy of a valid, unexpired driver's license is required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Permanent staff administer chemotherapy; travelers are not expected to administer chemo
  • Experience with PleurX chest tubes is a significant advantage given the frequency of malignant patients discharged with them
  • 3 CNAs are available on both day and night shifts
  • Charge nurse coverage is available 24/7; charge nurses on days do not take a patient assignment, but night charge nurses do
  • Travelers are integrated into the holiday rotation alongside permanent staff
  • Royal blue scrubs are required; no false nails permitted
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible — local travelers are not accepted
  • Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
  • Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year before requiring a 2-year break
  • Two references are required: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN)
  • A skills checklist completed within the past year is required for consideration
American Traveler Job ID #P-730427. Pay package is based on 12 hour shifts and 36 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with tax-free stipend amount to be determined. Posted job title: Travel RN - Med/Surg - Oncology
