Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry Float Pool position at a Level II Trauma facility in West Virginia, requiring ACLS certification and the ability to pass a cardiac rhythm exam.

Details

• Acute care setting at a Level II Trauma facility
• Float Pool assignment covering Med/Surg Telemetry units; most frequent units are 6N (36 beds) and 7N (29 beds), with additional float potential to 4N (36 beds), 5S (36 beds), 6S (36 beds), and Critical Care (20 beds)
• Patient population includes CHF, cardiac cath, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, orthopedic, and oncology cases (chemo administered by permanent staff only)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is primarily 1:5–6 on most units for both days and nights; ratios may occasionally reach 1:7 toward the end of a shift based on patient acuity
• Telemetry monitoring via Philips equipment; most units have monitor techs, but RNs must be able to read and interpret cardiac strips
• CPAP and BiPap present on units; managed by Respiratory Therapy
• CNAs are utilized on all units
• Drip titration is not required for this role
• Float Pool RNs report to the clinical coordinator's office prior to shift start for unit assignment and will most likely be assigned a parent unit with basic telemetry patients within their scope of practice
• 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
• Every-other-weekend requirement (Saturday and Sunday)
• Holiday coverage required on a rotating schedule shared with permanent staff
• EMR: Epic

Requirements

• Active WV RN license or a compact RN license currently in hand
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Must be able to read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips; all travelers are required to take and pass a cardiac rhythm/EKG exam prior to starting
• Med/Surg Telemetry or float pool experience strongly recommended
• A valid, unexpired driver's license is required for consideration

Additional Information

• Royal blue scrubs required
• Orientation consists of 1–2 preceptored shifts
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
• Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before being eligible to reapply
• Travelers may not work within the WVU Medicine system for longer than one cumulative year; after reaching that threshold, a 2-year break is required before returning
