Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry Float Pool position at a Level 2 Trauma acute care hospital in West Virginia, requiring at least 2 years of experience and the ability to read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips.

Details

  • Float pool assignment covering multiple Med/Surg Telemetry units in an acute care, Level 2 Trauma hospital setting
  • Primary float units are 6N (36 beds) and 7N (29 beds); other units include 4N, 5N, 5S, 6S, and Critical Care (20 beds)
  • Patient population includes CHF, cardiac cath, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, orthopedic, and oncology cases (chemo administration is performed by permanent staff only)
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:5–6 on most units for both days and nights; acuity may occasionally result in up to 7 patients near end of shift
  • Telemetry monitoring via Philips equipment; most units have monitor techs, but RNs must be able to read and interpret rhythm strips independently
  • CPAP and BiPap are present on units; managed by Respiratory Therapy
  • CNAs are available on all units
  • Charting is performed in Epic
  • 12-hour shifts, available on both day (7a–7p) and night (7p–7a) rotations
  • Every-other-weekend requirement (Saturday and Sunday for both day and night shifts)
  • Float pool RNs report to the clinical coordinator's office before shift start to receive unit assignment; travelers will most likely be assigned a 'parent unit' and given basic telemetry patients within their scope of practice

Requirements

  • Active WV RN license or Compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Med/Surg Telemetry experience required
  • Must be able to read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips
  • BSN is not required
  • A copy of an unexpired driver's license is required for consideration
  • Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position

Additional Information

  • Candidates must pass a cardiac rhythm/EKG exam prior to starting; those with ACLS are expected to pass without difficulty
  • No drip titration is required for this float pool assignment
  • Charge nurses are available on every unit 24/7; day charge does not carry a patient assignment, night charge does
  • Orientation consists of 1–2 preceptored shifts on the unit
  • Royal blue scrubs are required
  • Holiday coverage is worked into the rotation alongside permanent staff
  • Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
  • Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year without taking a 2-year break
American Traveler Job ID #P-730431. Pay package is based on 12 hour shifts and 36 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with tax-free stipend amount to be determined. Posted job title: Travel RN - Med/Surg Float Pool
