Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Medical/Surgical Telemetry unit in Arizona, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience, telemetry strip interpretation skills, and the ability to pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to placement.
Details
- 49-bed Medical/Surgical Telemetry unit (3rd Floor) in an acute care hospital setting
- Common patient diagnoses include CHF, COVID, respiratory conditions, GI issues, diabetes, post-cath, and total joint replacement
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5, with Nurse Aides available at a 1:10–15 ratio
- Monitor Techs are present on the unit; RNs are also required to independently interpret telemetry strips and sign off at least once per shift
- Set-rate drips administered on this unit include Diltiazem/Cardizem; RNs are not required to titrate drips
- Respiratory equipment in use includes BiPAP, CPAP, and breathing treatments
- Charge Nurse and House Supervisor support available on the unit
- EMR: Cerner (experience strongly recommended due to limited orientation)
- 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM
- Self-scheduling used; schedules are set on a 4-week rolling basis
- Every other weekend requirement (2 weekends per 4-week schedule)
- First to float; may float to the East Campus and potentially PCU if qualified
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Experience reading and interpreting basic telemetry strips required
- Some experience with CVA and TIA patients required
- Total joint replacement experience required
- Cerner EMR experience strongly recommended
- Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) with a score of 80% or higher within two attempts prior to placement
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years — both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Valid driver's license required
Additional Information
- Interpret and sign off on telemetry strips at least once per shift
- Administer set-rate drips including Diltiazem/Cardizem and manage patients on BiPAP and CPAP
- Only 1 shift of on-unit orientation is provided; Cerner experience is strongly recommended to ensure a smooth transition
- A sterile technique pass/fail test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes is administered on the first day of orientation
- Candidates who fail the Relias Dysrhythmia exam or sterile technique test on the second attempt will not be eligible for CommonSpirit facilities in Arizona or the Sacramento, CA region for 6 months
- Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year; those employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, as verified by driver's license
- Holiday coverage is expected for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day — traveler is expected to work 2 days and 1 eve or 2 eves and 1 day across the applicable holidays
- Navy blue scrubs required
- No on-call or standby requirements
