- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:2 standard, 1:1 for higher acuity patients (e.g., CRRT, immediate post-op hearts, MTP, OPO), and 1:3 for med-surg/floor-status patients
- RNs are required to titrate drips including epi, norepi, propofol, precedex, vasopressin, dobutamine, heparin, insulin, dopamine, neo, and milrinone
- RNs monitor and document their own telemetry rhythm strips using GE monitors (no telemetry techs on unit)
- RT is available 24/7 with full respiratory equipment including vents, BiPAP, and Vapotherm
- Intensivist is in-house 24/7
- Charting system is Cerner (transitioning to Epic)
- 12-hour night shifts (1900–0730)
- Every other weekend required (more if willing)
- If not needed in SICU, may float to MICU or serve as a patient observer within the hospital
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active WI or compact RN license required by start date
- Required certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIHSS — all must be active
- Preferred certification: TNCC

- Experience with CRRT, IABP, Impella, and ECMO is not required but is strongly preferred
- A charge nurse is present on every shift and typically does not take a patient assignment; a nursing house supervisor is available 24/7

- Orientation consists of one day of system onboarding/CBT, followed by two orientation shifts on the unit, plus completion of a skills checklist
- No specific scrub color required; clean and professional attire is expected
- Every other holiday required (more if willing)

Pros
I couldn’t have asked for a better experience for my first travel assignment. American Traveler has made the entire process feel easy from start to finish. Everything was explained clearly, and I always knew what the next step was, i never felt like i was left in the dark. One of my favorite things has been how communicative everyone is. Whether it’s my recruiter, Amanda, or Iranna from payroll, I always get a quick response when I have a question. It’s nice working with a team that actually follows up and keeps you in the loop. Amanda has been awesome throughout my assignment. She checks in regularly with a call or text just to see how things are going and make sure I don’t need anything. That level of support has really stood out to me. I’m rly happy I chose American Traveler for my first assignment, and I wouldn’t hesitate to work with them again.
