Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ED RN for an 8-week travel assignment at a Level 3 trauma, stroke, and STEMI-certified acute care hospital, requiring Epic proficiency and a full set of emergency certifications.

Details

  • Work in an acute care hospital Emergency Department with Level 3 trauma designation, stroke certification, and STEMI certification, including an on-site cath lab
  • 11 main beds plus 1 dedicated trauma bed; travelers may be assigned to the trauma room
  • The department treats approximately 50-55 patients per day, including chest pain, abdominal pain, DKA, sepsis, respiratory distress, mental health, and trauma cases (MVAs, farming accidents, falls on blood thinners); some pediatric patients
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3 in the main ER and 1:2 for ICU-acuity patients
  • Common drips include nitroglycerin, levophed, insulin, and cardizem
  • Respiratory therapy equipment available includes vents, BiPAP, CPAP, high-flow, and nasal cannula; RNs administer breathing treatments
  • Triage is conducted from the lobby using the ESI rating system, with overflow infusion rooms available; travelers are eligible to triage
  • No separate fast track, psych, or holding areas — all patient types are intermixed within the ED
  • Philips telemetry monitors are used; RNs must independently read and interpret tele strips
  • EMR is Epic
  • 12-hour shifts with a mix of evening and night hours: 1a–11p, 1p–1a, and 6p–6a
  • Weekend requirement is every 3rd weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)
  • No on-call or standby requirement
  • No floating requirement

Requirements

  • Active RN license — Nebraska (NE) or Compact state license required
  • Minimum 1 year of ED/ER experience required
  • Ability to independently read and interpret telemetry strips
  • Required certifications: BLS (AHA or ARC), ACLS, PALS, ENPC, TNCC, and CPI
  • BSN is not required
  • Epic EMR experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Rural/community hospital experience is preferred
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Support staff on each shift includes 1 paramedic, 1 CNA, and a ward clerk; CNAs can perform vitals, triage, EKGs, IV removal, and transportation
  • Phlebotomy is available in the ER; RNs may draw labs off IV starts
  • Security is present on campus 24/7 with the security office located just outside the ER lobby
  • Imaging (X-ray and CT) is located just outside the ER doors
  • Self-scheduling is used; travelers sign up after core staff, with the manager balancing the schedule
  • Holiday coverage required on a rotating basis for Easter, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's
  • Orientation includes 1 day of Epic training followed by 1–2 preceptored shifts
  • Navy blue scrubs are required
  • Candidates must reside more than 45 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
  • Small, close-knit team environment with a community hospital atmosphere
