Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Post Surgical Care Med/Surg Tele position at a Level III Trauma, teaching hospital in North Carolina, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience.

- Post Surgical Care unit in a 457-bed Level III Trauma and teaching hospital with designations including Chest Pain Center, Stroke Center of Excellence, and Bariatric Center of Excellence
- 32-bed unit managing post-surgical patients with diagnoses including small bowel obstructions, general surgery (colectomy, colon/small bowel resections, nephrectomy, hysterectomy, mastectomy, appendectomy, cholecystectomy, hernia repairs, splenectomy, thyroidectomy), kidney stones, pneumothorax, bariatric surgery, rib fractures, hip fractures, joint replacements, and cellulitis
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4–6; may increase to 1:7–8 during surge
- 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- Floating required within Region 1 (Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) — candidates not willing to float to all regional facilities should not apply
- EMR: Epic
- Equipment includes BD Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Masimo monitors, and remote telemetry monitoring
Requirements
- Active NC or Compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, NG tubes, ostomy care, wound care, drains, continuous bladder irrigation, tube feeds, and cardiac rhythm interpretation
- Must provide last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Must have a permanent address at least 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
- Candidates who have worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must be separated for at least 1 year before being considered
Additional Information
- Unit support includes NA+ CNAs (4 per shift), 24/7 charge nurse coverage, 24/7 phlebotomy, an IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist; resource nurse available as staffing allows
- Remote telemetry monitoring and tech support provided
- Orientation includes facility NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; any missed contracted hours must be made up at the end of the contract
- Schedule cycles are set every 6 weeks
