American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a MS/Tele Float Pool position in Kansas, requiring 2 years of MS/Tele experience and the ability to float across multiple facilities within a 60-mile zone.
Details
- Acute care setting with no single home base facility — travelers float across Zone 4, which covers a 60-mile radius centered around Garden City, KS
- Zone 4 facilities include hospitals in Garden City, Dodge City, and Ulysses, KS
- Float pool covers multiple MS/Tele units spanning specialties including Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Ortho, Trauma, and ED Obs
- Patient population consists of adults and geriatrics with diagnoses including cardiac, neuro, ortho, oncology, renal, urology post-surgical, general surgery, gynecology, psych/detox, ENT, and general medicine
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5–6 based on acuity
- May be asked to float into other acuity levels including ICU (low acuity holds within skillset), PCU/Stepdown, and MS/Tele
- Heparin drip titration required
- RT equipment including vents, CPAP, and BiPap in use on unit
- Nurse aides are available on unit
- Designated charge nurse on each unit; charge nurse does not typically take a patient assignment, though night shift charge may occasionally carry a small patient load
- 12-hour night shifts (19:00–07:00)
- 6–9 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule
- Schedule is created by leadership and released 4–6 weeks in advance; travelers are expected to be flexible and help fill scheduling gaps
- Shift assignments may follow a set weekly facility schedule or a Just-In-Time (JIT) model where the facility is assigned 1–2 hours before shift start
- EMR: Epic (experience preferred)
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active KS RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses will not be accepted
- Current AHA certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS; pending certifications will not be accepted
- Minimum 2 years of MS/Tele experience within the last 3 years required
- Prior neuro experience preferred
- Alaris pump and Epic EMR experience preferred
- A valid driver's license is required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked; references must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Candidates must permanently reside more than 60 miles from the Garden City, KS zone center to qualify for travel rates; driver's license is used to verify permanent address
Additional Information
- Traveler is responsible for securing housing that allows them to float throughout the full 60-mile Zone 4 radius, regardless of where they choose to stay
- Traveler must be physically present in Kansas for the week of orientation, even if initial modules are completed remotely
- All time-off requests must be submitted prior to starting the assignment
- May be asked to participate in holiday rotation
- On-call or standby requirements are rare and typically related to low census
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year; candidates previously working PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- Interview process is conducted by the MedSol Clinical Team with no unit manager involvement

Pros
I couldn’t have asked for a better experience for my first travel assignment. American Traveler has made the entire process feel easy from start to finish. Everything was explained clearly, and I always knew what the next step was, i never felt like i was left in the dark. One of my favorite things has been how communicative everyone is. Whether it’s my recruiter, Amanda, or Iranna from payroll, I always get a quick response when I have a question. It’s nice working with a team that actually follows up and keeps you in the loop. Amanda has been awesome throughout my assignment. She checks in regularly with a call or text just to see how things are going and make sure I don’t need anything. That level of support has really stood out to me. I’m rly happy I chose American Traveler for my first assignment, and I wouldn’t hesitate to work with them again.
